The two devices bring budget photography to a new level

Earlier today we told you that Sony had taken the opportunity to extend its action camera portfolio with the addition of the new compact AS20 camera, which will sell for the super affordable price tag of $200 / €149.

But that’s not all that saw the light of day from Sony. The company also rolled out two new Cybershot compact models, which should cater to the needs of customers on a budget.

Even if these cameras appear to be small and light, they come with decent enough specs that will allow hobbyists to snap great photographs.

Say hello to the new pocket-sized DSC-WX220 and DSC-W810 cams, which arrive with quite honorable specifications. Let’s start with the first model and see what it brings to the table.

The DSC-WX220 arrives with an 18.2 Exmor R CMOS sensor and 10x optical zoom G lens. This is not half bad, especially when you consider that the high-resolution sensor and lens work in concert with Sony’s BIONZ X processor in order to deliver full HD images and video (1920 x 1080).

Sony says that the camera should be capable of producing videos and images with a great deal of detail and lacking the ever annoying noise problem.

Furthermore, the camera comes equipped with SteadyShot technology, which can be found in the recently released AS20 action camera. So, the system should bring improved stabilization standards when shooting video.

The WX220 comes equipped with Wi-Fi so users can easily transfer their work to their compatible smartphone or tablets, regardless of whether they run Android or iOS.

Moving along, the DSC-W810 is the better model, which comes with enhanced functionalities in some areas. For starters, it arrives with a 20.1MP CCD sensor with 6x optical zoom lens and is capable of shooting HD movies at 720p.

Sony has added a dedicated movie button on the camera, so you won’t have to fiddle through menus and settings trying to switch between photo and camera mode.

Furthermore, the camera comes equipped with the Party mode setting, so if you’re at a gathering where lighting conditions are low, the device will “know” how to automatically adjust sensitivity, exposure, and color in order to deliver the best possible photographs.

Pricing is the major appeal with the new devices. The Sony Cyber-shot WX220 will become available in August in black and gold paint jobs for $200 / €149, while the less impressive W810 will sell for just $100 / €74.
