The smartphone cannot be pre-ordered from Sony Online Stores anymore

The chances that Sony might delay the Xperia Z2 are now close to zero, as the Japanese company has confirmed through multiple channels that it will go ahead with the release as previously planned.

This means that Sony fans should be able to grab the Xperia Z2 beginning next month, assuming they can afford one or they are willing to commit to a long-term agreement.

But there’s a catch. We reported yesterday that Sony removed the pre-order button from the Xperia Z2 page on its online store, so we assumed that the smartphone might be delayed for a few weeks.

Well, it looks like the company has confirmed that it will not take any Xperia Z2 pre-orders through its Sony Online Stores due to limited stock.

The folks over at XperiaBlog have been told by Sony UK PR team that Xperia Z2 has already seen “strong demand” at all retailers and carriers, which is why the company won’t be able to fulfill all orders at launch.

The solution to the problem is to turn a simultaneous global rollout of the Xperia Z2 into a staged one, which means that the smartphone will be gradually introduced in various markets across the globe.

Here is Sony UK’s statement regarding the strong demand for Xperia Z2, which is the main reason for dropping pre-orders via its online stores:

“We’re seeing particularly strong demand for Xperia Z2 across all of our distribution channels. As with all of our product launches, global rollout is phased across markets and channels. Consumers will be able to get Xperia Z2 in the UK starting from April.”

Two more statements from Sony Xperia France and Sony Xperia UK have been spotted by XperiaBlog. Each of these statements reiterates the fact that Sony Xperia Z2 is a “victim of its own success” and that due to stock shortage, the company has been forced to remove the pre-order button from its online stores.

Even so, the important thing is that Sony will go ahead with the April launch, especially that Samsung is also expected to release its Galaxy S5 flagship smartphone around the same timeframe as well.

Hopefully, Sony will be able to ramp up production of Xperia Z2 units in the next couple of months, so it can meet the “strong demand” for its flagship smartphone.

So, if you want the Xperia Z2, you should make your order with your favorite carrier or retailer right now, as limited stock is expected.
