The upgrade should arrive in the following weeks

Sony has just finished rolling out all the Android 5.0 Lollipop updates promised earlier this year, but it looks like the Japanese company might have some nice surprises for some of its fans.

According to Sony France, the company is now working to deliver Android 5.0 Lollipop for Xperia T3, a mid-range smartphone that hasn't been confirmed for such an update.

Sony announced plans to upgrade the Xperia C3 and Xperia T2 Ultra to Android 5.0 Lollipop, and these were the only mid-range smartphones to get the update from what we knew until today.

However, Sony France's tweet comes to confirm that Xperia T3 is on the list of eligible smartphones for an Android 5.0 Lollipop upgrade.

Sony Xperia T3 was released on the market last year in July and is still powered by Android 4.4.4 KitKat operating system. The smartphone is equipped with a 1.4GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor, 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal memory.

Other mid-range Xperia phones might receive the update too

Considering its mid-range specs, it would make sense for Sony to start offering Android 5.0 Lollipop updates for other Xperia smartphones with similar hardware configurations.

The Xperia M2 and its waterproof twin sibling Xperia M2 Aqua are two other mid-range smartphones that should get a Lollipop update as well.

The smartphones were released no more than a year ago, and with the exception of the processor, they have similar hardware specs as the Xperia T3.

The only bad news would be the fact that Sony PR teams aren't known for their accuracy, so if the company backtracks on this statement, it won't be a complete surprise.

Anyway, let's hope Sony will continue to offer Android 5.0 Lollipop updates to more mid-range Xperia smartphones in the coming months. We will keep an eye out for any additional details on the matter, so stay tuned.
