Sony Mobile has just announced that Xperia Z, Xperia ZR and Xperia ZL owners can now download the long-awaited Android 4.4 KitKat update.

The Japanese handset maker has kicked off the rollout of the upgrade today, which means that owners of the three smartphones should expect to receive it in the next couple of days. Keep in mind though that this is a staged rollout, so it will take a while until it reaches all devices.

Anyway, along with the announcement that highlights the main features included in the Android 4.4 KitKat update for the three smartphones mentioned earlier, Sony has also shared some details on the next Xperia models that should receive the upgrade in the next months.

According to Sony Mobile, the Xperia T2 Ultra, Xperia E1 and Xperia M2, along with their dual variants, should receive the Android 4.4 KitKat update starting July.

Although the Japanese company did not unveil any exact release dates, it did say that it would be back with more details in the not so distant future, “bespoke feature sets and timings as things progress.” We will keep an eye out for any additional details on the matter, so stay tuned for more info on this one.
