Sony is on a roll. A month earlier, it announced that it would be launching a new version of the PlayStation 3 called Slim, which packed a 120 GB hard drive, offered a smaller profile, used less energy and, best of all, cost just 299 dollars. Now, the Japanese console manufacturer is announcing that a PlayStation 3 Slim with an even bigger, 250 GB hard drive is set to arrive, bundled with various video games, on the Japanese and the United Kingdom markets. Up to this moment, Sony has made no announcement related to the new console coming to the United States.

The all-new version of the PS3 is set to arrive in the United Kingdom on its own starting with October 1, with a price tag of 284.99 pounds, compared with the 120 GB one that costs 249.99. The first bundles will offer inFamous, the latest super-hero game launched by Sucker Punch, but players can also pick up two packages of the Platinum line with the new console.

On October 16, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves will be an option for those looking for a bundle, and a multimedia package that includes a Blu-ray remote and the movies Wolverine and Batman: The Dark Night will be available on October 19. There are also prospects to see the new version of the PlayStation 3 packed with titles like FIFA 10 and Need for Speed: Shift.

In Japan, the 250 GB PlayStation 3 Slim will arrive as part of the Final Fantasy XIII Lighting Edition. The console will be all white and will feature a pink image of the Lighting characters from the upcoming role-playing game from Square Enix. Fans of the series will be able to pick it up on December 17, the same date when Final Fantasy XIII is released, and the package will cost 41,600 Yen.

Considering that Microsoft is offering 50-dollar rebates for those who pick up an Xbox 360 Elite console until October 2 and that it might extend that offer, the battle for the console second spot of the current generation is really heating up.
