Sony has praised extensively its PlayStation division during the latest financial earnings call, highlighting the great profits recorded by the PS4 and the PlayStation Network, while avoiding any talks about possible improvements, especially for the maligned online service.

Sony has been around for quite some time, but in recent years, the Japanese corporation has gone through some really disappointing financial situations, owed in part to the Japanese Yen conversion rate, as well as the lackluster investments made by the corporation.

However, thanks to the PS4, things are looking much better, as the PlayStation division as a whole has brought in a lot of money to the Japanese company.

The PlayStation division is very profitable

During the latest financial earnings call, Sony boss and PlayStation overseer Kaz Hirai lays stress on the profits generated by the PlayStation division as a whole, from the actual PS4 sales, as well as the PlayStation Network user base that spends a lot of money on the PlayStation Plus subscriptions.

According to the executive, via DualShockers, the PlayStation division emphasizes the value added approach that should be employed by more Sony branches in the future, in order to keep things even more profitable.

In particular, he confirms that there are over 64 million monthly active users on the PlayStation Network, who enjoy not just downloading games and apps but also services like the PlayStation Vue cloud TV streaming one.

"The PlayStation Business generates increasing profits from software sales through the growth of the installed base of the consoles. PlayStation Network has over 64 million monthly active users enjoying services including the subscription service PlayStation Plus, and PlayStation Vue, the new cloud-based TV service that we began beta testing in the United States. The PlayStation Network enjoys profit growth in a stable, sustained basis," he explains.

Unfortunately for actual PSN users, Hirai didn't mention anything about the many different problems suffered by the PSN in recent times, from DDoS attacks to errors and prolonged outages. Back when the PlayStation Plus subscription was revealed, the company pledged to use the money to improve the network's infrastructure, but no visible progress has been recorded or at least emphasized by Sony.
