The company hasn't provided specifics on when the new device will go official

Japanese mobile phone maker Sony Mobile appears set to make official a new handset featuring a large touchscreen display, and has already started to tease this phone online.

The handset vendor took it to Twitter to “announce” the upcoming availability of a new device, and also published a teaser photo for it.

The image, embedded above, shows the slim side of a new product, which could very well prove to be the next-generation Xperia Z Ultra.

No confirmation on the matter has been provided as of now, but the timing seems about right, since Xperia Z Ultra landed on shelves about a year ago.

Furthermore, based on the fact that Samsung teased some of Galaxy Note smartphones with the same “next big thing” tag line, there’s a great chance that Sony is indeed planning the unveiling of a large smartphone, most probably an Xperia Z2 Ultra.

In all fairness, there is also the possibility that the new product will be a tablet PC, though Xperia Z2 Tablet has already landed on shelves, and a successor might not arrive until next year.

Sony hasn’t revealed specifics on when the new device will be announced either, but it should not be too long before that happens, so stay tuned for more on the matter.
