Shortly after revealing the upcoming availability of the Xperia miro, Sony Mobile announced a new Xperia device that will probably go on sale in the following weeks, the Xperia tipo.
Sony Xperia tipo will also be available in a dual SIM version, which is dubbed Xperia tipo dual.
Both variants of Xperia tipo, along with the Xperia miro
are expected to go on sale globally in Q3 2012. Unfortunately, Sony failed to offer any details on pricing options and release date.
However, both Xperia phones are mid-budget handsets, so don’t expect any impressive features apart from Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.
The affordable Xperia tipo is aimed at customers who may be purchasing their first smartphone and comes with a dedicated set-up guide and a built-in application that allows users to monitor their data usage.
Xperia tipo and tipodual sport a decent 3.2-inch scratch-resistant mineral glass display and 3.2-megapixel rear cameras. There’s no mention of a secondary camera for video calls, though Xperia miro has been confirmed to carry a front-facing camera.
Bluetooth and Wi-Fi support for easy content sharing and web access is included as well, along with a 1500 mAh Li-Ion battery, which has yet to be rated by Sony.
It is also worth mentioning that Sony Xperia tipo and Xperia tipo dual will be available in multiple colors such as red, white, blue and black. Stay tuned for more updates on the matter.
“Xperia miro and Xperia tipo are for consumers looking for entertainment experiences and functionality traditionally associated with high-end Android smartphones. Xperia miro is for those who want an integrated social media and a great music experience while Xperia tipo is for consumers who want to realise the benefits of a smartphone for the first time as they migrate from a feature phone
,” said Calum MacDougall, director of Xperia Marketing at Sony Mobile Communications.
