Today, Japanese mobile phone maker Sony Mobile officially confirmed the upcoming availability of the Android 4.3 Jelly Bean operating system for some of its latest Xperia smartphones out there, including the Xperia Z and Xperia Z Ultra.

In fact, the company confirmed that it is already working on the update, and that owners of the Xperia Z, Xperia ZL, Xperia ZR, Xperia Tablet Z, Xperia SP, and Xperia Z Ultra will all get a taste of it.

In the meantime, however, users will have to sit tight and wait for the Android 4.2 upgrade to arrive on their handsets, the company says.

At the moment, this platform release is rolling out on Xperia Z and Xperia ZL smartphones, and should start arriving on Xperia ZR and Xperia Tablet Z in early August, it seems.

However, it seems that Sony isn’t looking to delay the upgrade to Android 4.3 by releasing the Android 4.2 update first.

“We’re also looking at uplifting some of our other devices running 4.1 direct to 4.3 – we’ll share more info / deets / timings when we can, so be sure to follow @SonyMobileNews for all the latest,” the company announced in a blog post.

No specific info on when exactly the new Android OS flavor will start arriving on Xperia smartphones has been provided as of now, but the vendor is sure to offer such info closer to the availability date.

Furthermore, the company warns that new software usually rolls out in a phased process, and that timings and availability may vary by market and carrier.

Furthermore, Sony acknowledges the fact that the Jelly Bean update for its Xperia 2012 products did not go as well as planned, but that things are set to get better.

“On that note, thank you for all the feedback on our Jelly Bean 4.1 rollout for Xperia 2012 products – we’re aware the process hasn’t been as succinct or as timely as you might’ve expected,” the company explains.

“As part of Developer World’s piece, Fredrik Ekstrand, our Head of Software Product Management, elaborates on some of the reasons for this, but essentially – we’ve heard your frustrations and are constantly improving the way we do things.”
