It hopes it can turn it around now that the Yen has become weaker

Sony hasn't been doing as well as other corporations in the world, and its battery sub-division almost paid for it, but it looks like this casualty, at least, won't be incurred.

Which is to say, despite two years of preparations leading up to the sale of the Sony battery business, the company has decided to keep it.

This is mostly because the Yen, Japan's currency, has been getting weaker.

This means that Sony is making more profits from overseas sales, since the Yen isn't pushing it down anymore. This goes for lots of other Japanese firms as well.

According to Reuters, Sony is actually thinking of turning the battery division into a core business now. Whether or not the plans pan out is something that time will eventually pass a verdict on.
