Japanese mobile phone maker Sony Mobile brought to the market some appealing new smartphones in 2013, with both the Xperia Z and Xperia Z1 proving impressive handsets, but it seems that the company will continue to launch similar phones.

The release of said smartphones, along with the newly-unveiled Xperia Z1 Compact, is expected to provide the company with the possibility to sell 42 million handsets during its fiscal year 2013, which will end on March 31.

The figure is double than what Sony managed to move back in 2011, and the momentum is expected to continue over the next few years as well.

In fact, in a recent interview with Nikkei, Sony Chief Executive Officer Kazuo Hirai said that the vendor was aiming to reach 80 million smartphone sales by the end of 2015.

For that, it will push its handsets more offensively to markets such as the United States and China, after already establishing itself in Japan and Europe.
