Internal studios are currently focusing not just on the PlayStation 3 or PlayStation Vita

Sony has once again re-confirmed its support for the current PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita but also admitted that most of its internal studios are currently busy with next-generation projects, presumably for the inevitable PlayStation 4.

The PlayStation 3 has been around since 2007 and, while Sony continues to brag about its long-term support for the home console, more and more rumors are saying that in 2013, the company will unveil the PlayStation 4, alongside a variety of games coming from its internal studios.

Sony’s UK Managing Director, Fergal Gara, has talked with CVG and has once again confirmed that the company is focusing on the PlayStation 3 at least for a few more years, especially since the market is still quite healthy.

“We're nowhere close to giving up on PS3. When you look at the UK market, it's easy to say that current consoles are fading. But if you look at PS3, it's holding up a lot better than others, so it warrants support,” he said.

“But if you look at continental Europe, PS3 hasn't even peaked yet. Why would you run away from a console business when you're not even top of the hill? We're certainly not going to run away from it.”

However, Sony is also thinking about the next generation of consoles and Gara practically confirms that the company’s internal studios are, in fact, working on next-gen games.

“We do have a challenge to manage that,” he said, in regard to releasing the next PlayStation ahead of Microsoft’s next Xbox, “particularly in terms of dev studio resources. The more platforms you have, and the amount of rich content you have to deliver on all the systems you are supporting, clearly puts pressure on decisions made across the studio network, which is something we are battling with.”

While it’s not an outright confirmation, it’s pretty clear that Sony’s internal studios are currently focusing on another platform besides the PlayStation 3 or PlayStation Vita.
