A software update will be available this summer

There were many reports about Xperia Z3+'s issues with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 chipset ahead of the smartphone's official launch on the market, but we thought the Japanese company would address these problems before the device would go on sale.

Unfortunately for many customers that purchased Sony's flagship smartphone, the overheating issues that we know about seem to be present in the retail version of Xperia Z3+ and Xperia Z4 as well.

Even though Qualcomm claims that its Snapdragon 810 chipset doesn't have any overheating problems, it looks like all smartphones that pack one tend to become very warm after just a bit of use.

The same goes for HTC One M9, which was benchmarked especially for this issue and the problem was present as well. Luckily, the Taiwanese handset maker fixed the issue in the retail version of the One M9 by updating the pre-release software.

Sony hasn't done the same, though, and many customers in Japan or from other parts of the world complain that their Xperia Z3+/Z4 devices are heating up without any apparent reason.

The update should throttle down the CPU and GPU clock speeds

Dutch blog GSMInfo has contacted Sony for a statement regarding these overheating issues and they have already received an answer.

Sony apparently confirms that it's aware of these problems reported by Xperia Z3+/Z4 owners, and says that “in some cases” overheating can lead to applications being closed. In addition, the smartphone's back panel might also become very warm during constant use.

The good news is the Japanese company promised to solve these overheating issues by releasing a software update sometime this summer.

Until then, the only thing Xperia Z+/Z4 owners can do when they notice their phones heat up would be to visit the nearest Sony service center.

We will keep an eye out for any additional details on the matter, so stay tuned for more.
