Rumors about the Sony A99II have surfaced ever since May. Back then, sources familiar with the matter said that this model would be a flagship A-mount shooter.

The consensus was that the A99II would replace the A99 and would feature a full-frame image sensor. Now, according to a new report coming to us via Sony Alpha Rumors, the A99 successor is said to be arriving with a 36MP sensor.

This is the same sensor that was used in the Sony A7R. Furthermore, the Sony A99II will come with the world’s fastest AF speed. For the time being this title is attributed to the Sony A6000.

The camera will also arrive with build-in Wi-Fi, NFC but will have no built-in GPS. Even if at some point it was speculated that the A99II would be unveiled at Photokina 2014, the new source claims the shooter will arrive as soon as this month.

The story goes to say the new camera will be unveiled alongside the Sony 24-105mm G lens. The new lens should be better or at least on par with the Sigma 24-105mm f/4.0 lens.

For the time being you can still pick up the A99 for $1,799 / €1,344. After the A99II gets unveiled, the A99 will continue selling but probably at a more discounted price.
