The camera should arrive in the first half of 2015

Before one of the biggest digital imaging events of the year Photokina 2014, we were hoping that Sony might be so kind and unveil a new E-Mount full frame mirrorless camera to be placed above the current A7 series.

This particular model has been known in the rumor mill as the Sony A9, but sadly the company chose to focus on other products.

The Sony A9 leaks again, with specs this time

The A9 has been in the rumor mill for quite some time now, but specifications seemed to elude us. Well Sony Alpha Rumors received a tip detailing the purported specs of the upcoming camera from an anonymous leaker.

Given the fact that this information doesn’t come from an already confirmed trusted source, we suggest you take the information with a big grain of salt.

Anyway, according to the leak, the Sony A9 will arrive bundling a 46-megapixel Bayer sensor. It will be able to shoot at 4fps and have an ISO range between 100-25,600 ISO (extended 50 to 51,200).

A lot of people might be excited that the shooter is also said to be able to capture in 4K (no internal 4K recording, though). Last but not least, the device is said to make it out with a weather-sealed body.

The upcoming full-frame mirrorless camera will probably become reality in the first half of 2015 with a price tag of $3000 / €2407.

Who knows, if we’re lucky enough, we might even get to see the Sony A9 be put on display on the grounds at CES 2015 in Las Vegas this January.

Even if the Sony A9 comes out on the market, the A7 and A7R won’t be replaced by the new mirrorless camera, but at the moment things aren't entirely clear, so we’ll have to wait until more information is made available for us.

A9's specs might change

Rumors regarding unannounced products have a tendency to morph quite often, so you shouldn't be surprised if in a few months you’ll hear something else entirely about the upcoming A9.

A few months ago the Sony A9 was said to have a slightly different configuration that included a 54MP full-frame Exmor CMOS image sensor, dual BIONZ X image processor and dual memory card slots.

As you can see, the current rumors indicate things have changed for the most part, although the current report doesn't say anything about dual memory card slots.

Keep checking back with us for new information on the Sony A9.
