Those of you who own a Sony A7r might be familiar with the shutter vibration problems that have affected several adopters of the camera.

The issues become apparent only in certain conditions, with tele zoom or when trying to do vertical shooting.

But now Sony jumps on the other side of the fence. Photoclubalpha reports that’s Sony new A7s has complete electronic and silent shutter mode. This is a different system form the one found in the A7, A99, A77 or A6000.

It’s also distinct from the near-silent leaf shutter terminated exposure found in the RX100, RX10 and RX1 models. According to the information, the new mode is completely free of mechanical action and totally free.

Currently, there’s no information regarding the possible limitations of shooting in this mode. However, a lot of Sony fans should be excited.

The silent shutter has been added in the form of a firmware upgrade to early production samples and units that will be shipped out in the future.

The firmware fixes go as follow:

“α7S now offers a ‘Silent Shooting’ mode ISO range for Movie Shooting extended to ISO100 – 102400, expandable to ISO100 – 409600 Dynamic Range extended to 15.3 stops as sensor RAW output.”

Last but not least, it would be interesting to see Sony provide a similar silent mode feat to the A7-A7r users.
