Back at CES 2014, Sony unveiled the new A5000 mirrorless camera. Back then it was touted as the world’s smallest and lightest Wi-Fi camera of this kind.

Interestingly enough, a few months later after the announcement, Sony appears to be gearing up to release a new updated version of the product we saw arrive in January.

The new model has showed up on the Indonesian Agency Postel page, in a listing filed by Sony for the ICLE-51000 device, says Sony Alpha Rumors. So, it appears we might be seeing the A5100 arrive into the wild soon.

Since the A5100 predecessor was announced just a few months ago, the big possibility is the new product won’t be a huge upgrade. Sony is probably looking to add some minor tweaks and improvements to the table, but so far the listing hasn't revealed much in terms of that.

For the time being, we’ll settle to remind you of the specs of the current A5000, a mirrorless camera which you can pick up in most parts of the world.

This small, portable mirorrless camera arrives with a 20.1MP APS HD CMOS sensor powered by BIONZ X image processor that is capable of offering enhanced low light capabilities and increased ISO sensitivity of up to ISO 16,000.

And since our culture is obsessed with the selfie virus, the device comes equipped with a 180-degree tiltable LCD screen which allows you to take self-portraits quite easily.

Furthermore, the camera’s body has a small lever that allows you to control the optical zoom without having to reach controls of the lens barrel.

The Sony A5000 also arrives with Wi-Fi capacities and NFC (Near Field Communication), so you can easily and almost instantly share the photographs you have snapped with your smartphone/tablet.

The camera arrives equipped with an extensive list of free and paid applications via the PlayMemories Camera Apps feat.

For example, photographers have at their disposal the Time-lapse v2.0 which helps them capture long time-lapse videos with better results, something achieved due to the new ambient brightness capabilities of the camera.

As we mentioned above, the A5000 is an ultra-compact camera that you can take anywhere.

The device weighs a meager 210g / 7oz, and thanks to the advanced image processor, it could even be thought of as a good alternative for DSLRs. The camera sells for about $600 / €400, but the new version might cost a little bit more if Sony adds some new features.
