A “Glee” star on the final season of one of the most violent shows now on TV is perhaps unexpected, but “Sons of Anarchy” creator and writer Kurt Sutter reveals for TV Line that Lea Michele, best known as Rachel Berry from the musical series, was perfect whilst on set.

The 7th and final season of the series will premiere on FX on September 9, with Michele making a cameo as a “simple truck-stop waitress” who talks with Katey Sagal’s Gemma over a cigarette break. Photos from the set leaked online hours after Lea shot her cameo, with fans noticing that she was far from her glam character on “Glee” or even the Lea they know from paparazzi photos.

That was the catch, Sutter says for the trade publication. It was Lea who insisted that she shoot the scene makeup-free.

“I’m just now doing post-[production] on that episode, and she’s great. She completely went there. Not a stitch of makeup. She’s just a frumpy waitress. She really got it and embraced what the show was. I’m thrilled,” Sutter says.

The millions of SOA fans know what he means when he says he’s “thrilled,” because they’ve been waiting for many months to see how this violent and troubling story ends, after 6, very solid seasons.

Sutter also tells TV Line that it was Paris Barclay, who executive produces SOA and also directed several episodes, who brought Lea on board.

“He’s really close to all those actors, and really helped them through their time of need. And I knew she was a big fan of the show, and we had this role that opened up. It was sort of a one-off and I knew we’d be able to get her in and out in a day. And the timing worked for her. She was thrilled,” Sutter says.

The 7th season of the series will kick off with a 2-hour special that will pick up just 10 minutes after the events in the season 6 finale. Jax (Charlie Hunnam) will have to deal with the reality of losing his wife Tara (Maggie Siff), but he doesn’t know the role his own mother (Sagal) played in her death.

All teasers from producers and even the trailers for the new season released so far point out to a gory finale for a very violent series. Even most of the fans know to expect the worst, as several online polls revealed just recently: while some still hope that Jax will live through this, most are convinced that Gemma will die.

We’ll see very soon if they were right on the money. Are you excited about the new SOA season, even if it’s the last? Let us know in the comments section.
