If anybody was afraid that no
Sonic or Mario games will hit the market anymore, stay calm and take a deep breath: this is not going to happen and
everybody seems to agree that it shouldn't. One of the games
that comes to confirm this already known fact is the official, then back to rumor announcement of Sonic Unleashed, the title that comes with "extensive 2D gameplay that brings old Sonic back home". And guess what? A bunch of screenshots leaked on the Internet and, if you haven't seen them already, you have this great opportunity if you click on the thumbnails below. Now... back to the game.
Xbox360fanboy.com posted an official press release from Sega magazine (that was subsequently removed) that said we will get no less than 12 stages to run through as Sonic, Knuckles or Tails and, of course, an action-packed adventure through the desolate and unpredictable World of Mumbuz, dictated by the evil Dragon Lord Immarius – a guy that looks like a big Star Wars fan.
Still, probably the most important piece of information that is somewhat confirmed by the screenshot in the upper left corner is the fact that Sonic will become "Wolf Sonic" - no information whether it will be a playable character or an "evil alter-ego" has been given. Whatever the truth is, it is definitely a change and changes should always be appreciated because they only hide one thing: the developers are trying to bring and actually develop something new, not pack the same game in a new box and sell it for millions.
So, here it is, you have it: Sonic Unleashed will be released, but nobody knows when or on which consoles. And, as a side note, it was not exactly the piece of news many people would've liked me to write. At least this proves one thing: all the people that were happy to see me missing from action and were sure I was fired or I died or something like this were wrong. I'm back, announcing a new Sonic game. Now... ain't that ironic?
