Sega has revealed that, historically, all Sonic games released by it have performed really well on Nintendo consoles, as opposed to other platforms, which made bringing Sonic: Lost World to Wii U and 3DS much more attractive.

Even if Sega was a fierce contender of Nintendo back in the 1990s and early 2000s, it's now on much better terms with the Japanese company, and its Sonic mascot has partnered with Mario on several occasions.

Now, the next big Sonic game, Lost World, is coming only to Wii U and 3DS, largely because that's where the biggest Sonic-loving audience is, according to Sega.

A company's representative has revealed, via Polygon, that Sonic games have historically performed better on Nintendo consoles, making it clear to Sega that the biggest Sonic fans own Nintendo platforms.

Sonic: Lost World is coming to Nintendo Wii U and 3DS on October 18, in Europe, and October 22, in North America.
