Users have found another issue with Windows 8.1 Update

A number of users are already experiencing issues with Windows 8.1 Update, but it turns out that in some cases, the new OS version could completely break down the computer by showing just a black screen after installation comes to an end.

Posts on Microsoft’s Community forums confirm that this isn’t just an isolated issue and many are experiencing the same behavior, even though the company tried to address it with some recent updates.

In some cases, the Windows 8.1 Update installation isn’t even creating a restore point, so rolling back the changes to a previous state is impossible, which means that a clean install might be the only choice.

One of the affected users claims he has found a solution, but the same workaround doesn’t appear to be working for everyone else experiencing similar problems.

Here’s what he posted earlier today:

“Actually, it looked like it was more of a disk error rather than the update causing it. I pulled the hard drive and plugged it into my desktop and I ran both a defrag and a chkdsk /f/r. The disk was fragmented and I let it do its thing and disk errors did come back with chkdsk. Luckily, this looked like this fixed my problem.”

At this point, Microsoft hasn’t provided any workaround, but it appears that the company is aware of the issue and might detail it anytime soon.
