Some People Hate Kylie - Think "Her Music's Rubbish"

She may be back with a vengeance, but - surprisingly or not - not everybody loves Kylie. And even though she took last night's Q Awards by storm with a dazzling figure-hugging black dress and show stopping Marylin Monroe-style hair, the petite Australian singer (crowned Q Idol) has managed to piss off some of the guests by her simple presence. It was Kylie's first day "back at work" after her successful battle with cancer and the first time she made an appearance at an awards ceremony since returning to the limelight.

The awards ceremony took place at the fancy Grosvenor House hotel in London's Park Lane, where a whole crowd of celebrities gathered to celebrate music of all kinds and for all tastes. Q Magazine editor Paul Rees stated that "this year, as ever, the Q Awards

celebrate and herald great music of all genres and era - from the best in new music to rock's legendary elite. And, at a time when the digital revolution has prompted many to predict the demise of the music business itself, this year the awards also demonstrate that great music and outstanding artists will continue to flourish and inspire, no matter how or where people choose to listen to them".

Well, this sounds great - and Kylie certainly is part of the musical elite of the moment, like it or not. She's a strong, determined woman who managed to overcome some difficult times and still manage to make it back into the lime light with ease and grace - and the "Idol" award celebrated much the style and attitude that render her music attractive. "I would like to thank those of you who continued to support me - including my dress" Kylie joked. "Just don't ask me what it means" she said referring to her "Q Idol" award but I'm very grateful and honored to be receiving this".

Former Stone Roses singer Ian Brown certainly disagreed to Kylie winning the award in question, however - and launched into some furious criticism of the Australian singer, whose music he referred to as "rubbish" and "for little kids". "I don't know what Kylie's doing at a music awards to be honest" he stated for BBC Radio Five Live. "I don't think she's cute. I don't think she's good-looking. Her music's rubbish - she makes music for little kids. I'm sorry if it sounds like I'm putting her down, but there's a lot of great minds out there making music and she's not one of them". He sounds very much bitter - and I'm not sure it was the time or place for such remarks - but apparently (as we all already know) we can never satisfy everyone.

Other winners included Best Breakthrough Artist for singer-songwriter Kate Nash, Best Act In The World Today for Arctic Monkeys, the Q Legend award for Ian Brown and the Q Lifetime Achievement honor for ex-Smiths guitarist Johnny Marr. Amy Winehouse, who won "Best Album" with her "Back to Black", mysteriously, went missing and never showed up for the show, despite the luxurious afterparty that was being prepared especially for her benefit.
