The problem doesn’t seem to have a permanent fix

We've been talking a lot about the Nexus 6 lately, mainly because the phone is the only device so far compatible with Google’s recently launched Project Fi wireless carrier affair.

Secondly, we brought to your attention the story of a Nexus 6 unit whose battery was found to swell, causing the rear cover to pop open. And in this particular case, the battery of the phone actually ended up exploding, and it all happened as the device was merely lying around, unplugged and not being used.

This week brings us more complaints related to the Nexus 6. While the handset is meant to be Google’s flagship device in the Nexus lineup, it appears there are still a few problems related to it.

As it turns out, a number of users in the US are reporting experiencing mobile connectivity failures, on a number of carriers, different software versions, and different locations.

Are you getting the "!" instead of the signal bars?

The issue becomes apparent when the 3G or 4LTE connection fails and the signal bars display with a "!" sign imposed over the top. This scenario happens regardless if a Wi-Fi connection is active or not, or if a connection to a local 3G or LTE tower is available.

Users on Reddit and the xda-developers forums have been trying to figure out a workaround for this particular problem. For the time being, we don’t know whether we’re dealing with a hardware or software issue, as neither Google nor Motorola said anything regarding the whole affair.

Some users have tried restoring the APN settings to default values or changing APN protocols, but to no avail. Others have tried removing the SIM card and inserting it again, which worked temporarily.

Rebooting the phone seems to fix the problem momentarily, but the issue comes back shortly after. It seems to be affecting mostly T-Mobile and Sprint network users, although digging through the threads mentioned above, we found at least one user from Verizon and one from the UK who reported the same connectivity issue on their Nexus 6.

Hopefully, the carriers will be notified soon enough and will offer a fix for the problem. Are you experiencing anything similar on your Nexus 6? Let us know in the comments.
