If you want to be always updated on what goes on around you and in the rest of the world, then an RSS reader is most likely on the list of tools you should regularly use.

With Google Reader entering its last month online, many individuals are looking for alternatives to this service.

So, once Google Reader goes offline, what RSS reader are you going to turn to? We thought to put together a few options to make your life easier.

An RSS reader we reviewed some time ago is Ping.it. While this one may not look like your regular RSS reader, it comes with some nice features.

For instance, instead of letting you check news on one site or another, it looks for keywords. This can be particularly helpful if you often like to read articles about a certain company, project or theme.

Filtering down the search is very easy and can be done by creating so-called Probes.

The service offers multiple ways to log in, including by Google+, Facebook or Twitter. This also enables you to send the articles you like to your friends and contacts.

EldonReader is another RSS reader that is nice to work with. Although it has only recently been launched, it shows promise.

So far, there are plenty of features that are interesting to the user and more are sure to come through soon, as the developers announced.

EldonReader lets you browse several categories that host predefined news sources. Other websites can be added as well by typing in their name in the search field.

Feedly is another popular alternative for the Google Reader. This one comes with plenty of nice features, including the ability to save articles for a later read.

You may also create categories and store websites under them by their topic. If you want more suggestions, Feedly also comes with several featured websites stored under topic-based categories.

The best part about Feedly however is the fact that you can synchronize your desktop app to your iOS, Android or Kindle apps. This means that you can always have access to the articles that interest you.
