Rumor has it that Microsoft is set to take the wraps off its next mobile operating system as soon as next month, and some more reports on the matter have started to emerge.

Apparently, Microsoft has already delivered Windows Phone 8 devices to some developers, to enable them to have applications ready for the big launch, Neowin reports.

These were developers who proved themselves with Windows Phone 7, called "star developers" or "VIP's." Apparently, Microsoft is monitoring these devices strictly, although many of them are currently out there in devs’ hands.

If the latest rumors on the platform are to be believed, Microsoft is set to launch the Windows Phone 8 SDK in early September, while making the platform officially available on October 1st or very close to that date.

Nothing is official, but more info should emerge soon, so keep an eye on this space for updates.
