Zone-H CEO shares some interesting things regarding the defacement archive

We’ve had an interesting interview earlier this week with Alberto Redi, the CEO of Security Lab, the company that owns Zone-H.org, the popular defacement archive website.

As we mentioned on Wednesday, over 665,000 defacements have already been submitted this year. Of course, some of the companies whose websites are defaced are not happy about it.

“Companies often ask to remove the incidents because they think that this creates damage to the company’s image. I think this is pure [nonsense],” Redi told us.

“Companies should thank us for pointing out their weakness, so that they can fix it, making them more secure for the future! If searching for one company on Google will show the Zone-H post on the first page, it means that the company has nothing to say on the internet,” the expert added.

“That's why the Zone-H post is the only information available about the company in the search engine. Once again, they should thank us for revealing a non-existing web strategy.”

However, according to Redi, some companies even threaten to file lawsuits against Zone-H if the defacement mirrors are not removed.

“Some people contact us not nicely, and sometimes they even threaten us with a possible lawsuit. We simply try to explain them that we are not responsible for what the people report on Zone-H, and that in the end it's better to know that a web site is vulnerable, so the admin can fix it, than not knowing this,” he explained.

On the other hand, Zone-H has never actually been sued by a company for the defacement mirrors.

The complete interview will be published in the upcoming days.
