Some Blood Pressure Meds May Raise Diabetes Risk

Diuretics and beta-blockers

Diuretics and beta-blockers, used to treat hypertension, are associated with an increased risk of developing type 2 diabetes, new findings indicate.

"The relation between the use of different classes of antihypertensive medications and the risk of incident type 2 diabetes is unclear," Dr. Eric N. Taylor, of Harvard Medical School, Boston, and colleagues write in the medical journal Diabetes Care. "Prior studies have reported conflicting
results."

The researchers examined the issue using data from studies that followed three large groups of men and women: the Nurses' Health Study (NHS) I and II and the Health Professionals Follow-up Study (HPFS).

The analysis included 41,193 older women from NHS I, 14,151 younger women from NHS II, and 19,472 men from HPFS. All of the subjects had high blood pressure, but not diabetes at first, and were followed for 8, 10, and 16 years, respectively.

A total of 3589 new cases of type 2 diabetes were recorded during follow-up.
The risk of developing diabetes in subjects taking thiazide-type diuretics compared with those not taking a thiazide was increased by 20 percent in older women, 45 percent in younger women, and 36 percent in men, after taking account of age, weight, physical activity, and other risk factors.
Compared to patients not taking a beta-blocker, older women taking beta-blockers had a 32 percent higher risk of diabetes, while for men the risk was 20 percent higher.

"Increased surveillance for diabetes in patients treated with these medications may be warranted," the authors conclude.
The use of other common types of blood pressure lowering drugs -- calcium channel blockers and ACE inhibitors - was not associated with the development of type 2 diabetes, according to the report.

not only that but also the following causes diabetes

YEAST ... it is something that slowly but steadily eats up human flesh, as it makes enormous room for bug and parasite production (hormones in ones body) thus making room for having ones meat eaten up by the smallest of all bugs that simply travel in the Parallel to human body tracks and consume human flesh, leaving behind bug hormones that attract more of the similar types, into ones environment, and keeps on destroying ones health in such a manner that simply won't stop, (alcohol based products usually try to erase their marks, but invane.)

beta blookers are themselves killer drugs, and an absolute change in ones diet plan must be followed rather than consuming OIL , man made sugar products and enormous starch.

ref coment #2 dont feel alone on that issue, iv been 8 diffrent doctors
in 4years been on 14 diffrent b.p meds, always get this line from them
ITS IN YOUR HEAD. its not the drug ? I asked 3 dr's ok then you try it !
they refused. its a known and listed fact ,long term use a person can come down with low blood sugar or high and can cause diabetes ! beta blockers .. ccbs are no better in fact they do more harm !

why cant the pharm companys who make the drugs , stop the suffering
and killing people with nasty bad drugs! and make a drug with out
side effects or adverse problems we get from them . they could do it
as they have billions of our hard earned dollars ! this evil system
of medications that harm and doctors who dont care , but for $$$
has to stop !

im now reaching for stars ! as to start on natural medications .
its worth the chance , as not to suffer from these drugs ! I think some doctors should be jailed ! and removed from doctoring forever.
it makes me sick just to think about this stuff.
but its been over 30 years of suffering with side effects and reactions
and not one stinking doctor has helped me to date .
it sucks !!
