Solid stated drives or SSDs for short are a long way from being the preferred data storage method of most computer users but as they have a number of advantages over the traditional hard disk drives, they are used to complement the main storage system inside a computer. As the solid state drives are faster and more responsive than hard disk drives, a combination of the two can be used to boost system performance and minimize power consumption as all often used files are being stored on the SSD rather than on the slower and more power hungrier
HDD.

While the competition on the hard disk drive market is fierce, because of prohibiting costs and low market interest, few computer hardware manufacturers began large scale production of solid state drives until now. Among the few SSD producers and vendors, there are Samsung, SanDisk and now comes Mtron which brings three new SSD lines of products to the game. The most spacious Mtron SSD product has a storage capacity of 128GB that while being small for a modern day hard disk drive is one of the biggest solid state drives out there.

Mtron released solid state drives with storage capacities ranging from 4Gb to 128GB and the manufacturing company claims a record breaking read speed of 120MB per second while the 90MB per second write speed is not far behind. One of the problems of traditional hard disk drives, the random access time, seems of almost no effect to the Mtron SSD products as they are three or four time faster than the hard disk drives and between 30 or 40 percent more responsive than other SSD designs. Coming in both 2.5 and 3.5 inch form factors, with Serial and Parallel ATA interfaces, the Mtron drives are targeted at desktop and mobile users as well, while a 128GB SSD packed in the small form factor of 1.8 inch is soon to be released.

Apart from the consumer oriented products, Mtron MSD PRO line is designed for businesses as it features enhanced durability and stability coupled with a secure erase feature to wipe out sensitive data, while the XTM line is tested in extreme temperature conditions, being able to function from 40 degrees to 85 degrees, making the drives practical for industrial applications.
