The future of storage seems to be the solid-state drives

Shortly after Micron has announced their new series of solid-state drives (SSD) to comprise 32 or 64 GB of storage space, Super Talent Technology takes the capacity to a new peak. The company has launched a set of 256GB Serial ATA (SATA) solid state drives, also known as FSD56GC35M. These discs, like the other solid-state equipments, can entirely substitute a had-drive without performing hardware modifications or adaptations.

The discs are manufactured using the 3.5-inch standard but they offer the undisputed advantages of the new technology: greater resistance to shock and vibration, significantly lower power consumption and faster performance, since there are no mobile parts to increase seek time.

The disc operates almost independently of the exterior conditions and can function normally between 0'C and 70'C, but the company is alleged to deliver an industrial temperature (I-Temp) version of the drive, to operate in an extended 40'C to 85'C temperature range. The product is named SS56GA6C35I, and Super Talent ensures the consumer that each industrial temperature drive is tested at extreme temperatures for quality assurance.

Solid-state drives are a more expensive yet efficient alternative to the classic storage. Much lighter and more energy-aware than the classic hard-drives, the SSDs are the ideal candidate when it comes to mobile storage, no matter if we are talking about notebooks, MP3 players, mobile telephony or digital camcoders.

The Super Talent solid-state drives are accompanied by a three-year warranty. The good news is that the manufacturer has started shipping samples of their SSD line, but the products are not yet to be found on the market. Super Talent is selling the drive series directly to the original equipment manufactures, so don't expect to see any of them on retailers' shelves anytime soon.
