If rumors are true

There's a rumor out there that Metal Gear Solid might be coming to the Microsoft made Xbox 360. Before you get too excited at the news, please notice the lack of a number next to "Metal Gear Solid." We're not talking about Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, the recently launched PlayStation 3 exclusive which is set to wrap up the saga of Solid Snake, super soldier and occasional philosopher. We're talking about the original Metal Gear Solid, the game that sparked the whole frenzy and that defined the Hideo Kojima way of making games.

A few people are claiming that Metal Gear Solid is undergoing testing on PartnerNet, a private Xbox Live server that is used by third parties to test the way various games work on the Xbox Live service. Konami is not saying anything regarding the rumor, which might just be a silent confirmation of the fact. The game was originally designed and released for the original PlayStation gaming console from Sony, as Hideo Kojima saw the technological revolution it was leading to, and took advantage of its capabilities to create a stealth game with impressive cutscenes for that time. The game proved a success and now MGS4 is wrapping up the saga it started.

The major difficulty that an Xbox Live version of the game would face is that it is way bigger than the 350 MB limit which Microsoft currently imposes on games. But modern technology could help compress the original product down to size, or maybe Microsoft might make an exception for such a legendary game.

It would also be a good way for Konami to signal that it has not lost interest in the Xbox 360 as a gaming platform and might even mean that, in the future, Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots could get an Xbox 360 port.

Expect to hear an official position from Konami on whether Snake is sneaking on the Xbox Live or not soon.
