Pegged as the first app to bring users a real 3D view of the Universe, Solar Walk version 1.6 is out for iPhone, iPod touch and iPad. The app is available on the App Store for $2.99, and features a new Galaxy view, real-time trajectories of the most interesting artificial Earth's satellites, and the 1st Solar Walk animated educational video - "Solar System Planets' Size Comparison".

According to VITO Technology, this update is designed to explore not only the Solar System, but the whole Galaxy.

Apparently, the app is a winner in Apple’s iTunes Rewind for 2010, which names the best apps in their respective categories.

Another key feature is the ability to set your current position, see the biggest cities on the globe, and check out various points of interests on Mars, Venus, and the Moon.

The update starts an educational movie collection with the first video: "Solar System Planets' Size Comparison." It even includes small Pluto which, for a few years now, is no longer named a “planet.”

However, as VITO Technology puts it, “The greatest and most expressive feature of this update is the availability to explore the whole Milky Way Galaxy and find the place of the Solar System there.”

According to the developer, users can zoom in and out to turn the Solar System and the galaxy in any direction.

“Version 1.6. brings us closer to the Moon, Mars, and Venus where we can find named points of interests on surfaces.”

“You can catch some one’s imagination naming craters of Mars or Venus, or just study astronomy with your kids,” VITO Technology explains.
