The aircraft, dubbed Solar Impulse, used nothing but green energy to complete its journey

Solar Impulse, a solar-powered plane carrying one pilot, completed its historic flight across the US this past Sunday.

The aircraft landed at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York after spending several weeks flying from one of the country's coast to the other.

Sources say that, as surprising as this may sound, Solar Impulse completed its trans-continental flight without having to burn a single drop of fuel.

Thus, the plane relied solely on the green energy provided by the solar panels mounted on its wings.

Due to the fact that some of the excess energy produced by these solar panels was stored by onboard batteries, the plane was able to keep flying even after sunset.

The plane's journey started in San Francisco. While traveling across the US, the aircraft made several stops in cities that chanced to cross its path.
