‘Die, zombie, die!’... Or why fight it when you could just run away?

Just because a large amount of people believe something doesn’t necessarily make it true, but it’s always better to be safe than sorry. So, while many wait for the changes set to take place December 21st 2012, others actually make survival plans.

Whether or not zombies are a part of this apocalyptic scenario, two brothers, Michael and Kenny Ham, decided to build affordable street-legal electric vehicles for the occasion.

So, while we have plenty of vehicles packed with anti-zombie features that could easily make us think it drove straight off the ‘Resident Evil’ movie, few are offering the possibility of a clean and easy drive to the gun or grocery store.

Take, for example, the Mercedes-Benz, ML 320 Jurassic Park Edition, the Conquest Knight XV or the Hummer H2. Sure, they can come in handy when you’re on a zombie hunt, but only until the petrol runs out.

But, as they say, there is always more than one solution to a problem. Some think running is the best defense. So, instead of fighting zombies, how about we try and just get away from them as fast and, of course, as eco-friendly as you can?

That was exactly what the Ham brothers thought when they came up with the ApocalypsEV, a solar/battery powered vehicle that might as well have fun as they try to survive.

With a slogan that reads: "ApocalypsEV-1: Civlization Optional", this Neighborhood Electric Vehicle (NEV) is actually an electric ATV that doubles as a street-legal EV for short commutes and errands.

The project now comes as a 2WD/20HP vehicle, with a 4WD/40HP option. The ApocalypsEV will include 40 watt solar panels and a built in wall charger, while safety is ensured by a 5 point harness and roll cage.

A prototype vehicle will be built when the necessary funding is raised. Furthermore, if this project proves usable, the brothers hope to offer a $5,000-$8,000 (€3,700-€5,900) EV that can be plugged in or use built in solar to charge its battery pack.

As you can see, it’s not always about the survival of the fittest, but of the best equipped.
