New technology allows New Yorkers to charge their phones at the corner of the street

“The city that never sleeps” is planning on developing solar-powered street lights that can also act as charging stations for those in need.

The concept is rather simple: if you find yourself pressed for time and either your phone or your notebook are running out of battery, all you have to do is stop for five minutes next to a “Street Charge” lamp.

Thus, while you enjoy a cup of coffee and a muffin, your gadgets will also get some much needed electrical “nutrition.”

Interestingly enough, the existing urban infrastructure doesn't need to be modified in any way to accommodate for these green charging stations: solar panels are to be simply added to existing posts.

Only one question remains: given the incredible number of pedestrians roaming the city's streets every hour of every day, exactly how many such eco street lamps will have to be made available to the public?
