14 DAY TRIAL // After some time out of the spotlight, Solange Knowles, Beyonce’s sister, is getting ready to make her comeback, if we can call it that. Above is the official video of her brand new single, “Losing You.”
The track is released by Terrible Records, and comes with a video directed by Melina Matsoukas, which is a gorgeous blend of modern and vintage elements.
With the new sound, Gawker sees in Solange’s music less of the desperation that marked her first record, when she was still eager to prove to the world she was more than Beyonce’s sister, instead of letting her music do all the talking for her.
“‘Losing You’ is, a strong contender for the greatest thing she's recorded, a mixed-mood dirge that is based on a loop of wild yelping (like new jack swing used to do when it gently ripped off the Bomb Squad and also reminiscent of Matthew Dear's most recent album),” the e-zine writes.
Both single and video are excellent across the board but, as per Gawker, this is no guarantee that they will also be successful commercially.
