Software MacKiev, a developer of consumer and educational products for Mac, announced the release of This Day in History, the first in a series of educational software products made especially for the iPhone that the company plans to release. Based on the popular widget with the same name, included in the Software MacKiev's 2007 World Book Multimedia Encyclopedia, the application displays a page filled with historical events that took place on that day. The events are automatically updated daily to correspond with the current date.

"When I first saw the iPhone at Macworld in January I knew I had to have one," said Jack Minsky, President of Software MacKiev. "So I'm particularly thrilled to have our company continue its role on the cutting edge of Apple technology by releasing our first iPhone application this week, just one week after Apple's iPhone launch. This new device is clearly the future of computing and we're excited about having versions of our famous consumer and educational software titles running on it."

This Day in History is only the first in a series of iPhone applications planned for release later this summer by Software MacKiev. The company is currently working on an iPhone companion application to its 3D Weather Globe & Atlas, that will display wind speed, barometric pressure, dew point and other weather conditions. Another educational iPhone software currently in development is World Book Trivia Challenge, an application that contains questions taken from the World Book Multimedia Encyclopedia, together with answers that include the name of the World Book article in which more information on the each topic can be found.

Software MacKiev's This Day in History application is available now and can be used free of charge. To access the application users need to enter mackiev.com/tdh in the Safari browser's address bar on the iPhone.
