A bunch of important Mac apps have seen their underlying code updated this week, and Softpedia is keen to report on these changes. As usual, download links are available for all programs mentioned in this report.

One of the first, and likely most important updates of the week, is Adium 1.4, a new version of the popular, multi-service, instant messaging client for Mac OS X.

The new build brings support for Twitter messaging, full IRC support, improved group chat services and bookmarks for persistent chats, and many other tweaks, including an update to the underlying libpurple chat library.

This release requires Mac OS X 10.5.8 Leopard or later. The full changelog can be viewed here.

The people at Maintain were also busy this week working up an update for users of their general purpose utility for Mac OS X, Cocktail.

Version 4.7.8 adds the ability to clear the recently-discovered Koobface.A (Boonana.A) trojan horse, as well as the ability to clear Microsoft Office 2011 font caches.

This version also fixes a few minor bugs discovered in the previous release, and has updated Automator actions, according to Maintain.

A security app for Mac OS X, ClamXav is also worth mentioning in today’s roundup, as the makers of the software have announced the release of version 2.0.8 Beta. It’s best if we just reproduce the full changelog for this release as posted by the developers. So here it is:

· Scanning engine updated to ClamAV 0.96.4 * · Improved stability during scan. · Fixed the issue giving "Error creating tmp directory" on scan after installation. · Fixed issue where ClamXav Sentry was incorrectly scanning files with similar names to folders being watched.

· * If you have edited freshclam.conf and clamd.conf by hand, you can find your old files inside /tmp.† · † If you don't know what that last line means, you can probably ignore it!

And, finally, we must mention the three different releases of Google Chrome announced by members of the Chrome development team this week.

Both the Beta and Dev channels, as well as the Stable channel of Google Chrome have been updated with new builds.

The latest Dev release (9.0.570.1), however, is solely available for Windows, Linux, and Chrome Frame. It contains a new version of Flash, according to Google developers.

The Dev channel for Mac has been updated to 9.0.572.0 which has a new version of Flash and fixes one of the top crashers.

On the Beta channel, version 8.0.552.28 is up for grabs for all platforms, including Mac OS X.

This release contains a number of bug fixes, as well as features like the new bundled PDF viewer, more sync services, and improved plug-in handling, according to Jason Kersey, of the Google Chrome team. This release also contains the new version of Flash.

The most important update of the lot, the Stable 7.0.517.44 release for Mac OS X, Windows, Linux and Chrome Frame, brings important security fixes and the updated Flash.
