dots CentOSOn May 14th, Karanbir Singh announced the release of CentOS 5.5, the newest update to the venerable Linux distribution. Based on the latest Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.5, it took the developers about a month and a half to get CentOS 5.5 ready, as it is usual for the distro.

CentOS 5.5 tries to stay as close to the upstream packages as possible and only removes the branding and the packages that are specific to Red Hat. As such, CentOS 5.5 includes everything that RHEL 5.5 brought new, as well as the hundreds of package updates.
