Being based on Gentoo Linux, the Desktop Edition of Calculate Linux 10.0 is now powered by Linux Kernel 2.6.31.6 and X.Org 7.4, it is built on top of the KDE 4.3.3 desktop environment and it includes the popular OpenOffice.org 3.1.1 office suite and the Mozilla Firefox 3.5.4 web browser. On the other hand, Calculate Linux Directory Server 10.0 contains pieces of software such as BIND 9.6.1-P2, OpenLDAP 2.4.19, ProFTPD 1.3.2b, Postfix 2.6.5 and Samba 3.4.3.

Highlights of Calculate Linux 10.0:

dots SystemRescueCdOn December 7th, François Dupoux announced the immediate availability of the SystemRescueCd 1.3.3 operating system. This brand-new release of the tiny, Gentoo-based Linux distribution for system administrators and data recovery tasks is now powered by the Linux kernel 2.6.31.6, with an updated Btrfs filesystem, from Linux kernel 2.6.32. Moreover, GRUB-Legacy and GRUB2 boot loaders were updated to version 0.97 and 1.97.1, respectively. Parted 1.9.0 was patched to fix many issues and GParted was updated to the new and improved 0.5.0 release.

Highlights of SystemRescueCd 1.3.3:

· Updated the standard Linux kernel packages to version 2.6.31.6 (with an updated Btrfs filesystem, from Linux kernel 2.6.32); · Updated GRUB2 boot loader to version 1.97.1; · Updated GRUB-Legacy boot loader to version 0.97; · Parted 1.9.0 was patched, in order to fix various issues (GParted bug 601574); · GParted was updated to version 0.5.0, which adds support for Linux software RAID; · Fixed some bugs in dmraid 1.0.0 RC16 (Gentoo bug #275451).

· Sun Microsystems proudly announced on November 30th the release of VirtualBox 3.1.0. This major update brings lots of new features, many bugfixes and improvements over previous 3.0.x versions. · On December 1st, the KDE community proudly launched the fourth maintenance version of the KDE Software Compilation (KDE SC) 4.3. Dubbed Cold, the brand-new KDE 4.3.4 software suite brings a couple of improvements to the Okular, Marble and KGpg applications, and bug fixes to packages such as Okteta, KTuberling, JuK and KAlarm. Various translations were also updated in this release. KDE 4.3.4 is officially available for the (K)Ubuntu 9.10 users thanks to the hard-working people behind the Kubuntu community, especially Alessandro Ghersi.
