dots ClonezillaOn January 18th, Steven Shiau announced earlier today, January 18th, the immediate availability of a new stable release of his system-cloning Linux distribution, Clonezilla Live 1.2.6-59. This version is powered by Linux kernel 2.6.32-30, and it introduces a couple of important bugfixes, as well as many enhancements and changes.

Highlights of Clonezilla LiveCD 1.2.6-59:

· Based on Debian Sid (2011/Jan/13); · Updated Linux kernel to version 2.6.32-30; · Updated Live-boot to version 2.0.14-1.drbl1; · Updated live-config to version 2.0.14-1.drbl2; · Updated the language files; · Added the option "-q1" (to force the use of dd) in the expert mode of Clonezilla, in order to achive device to device cloning. This is very useful if someone wants to clone an encrypted hard drive partition; · Added another example custom-ocs-2 that can be used to restore and save a dual boot system; · The "ocs-live-dev -s -d /dev/sda1" command failed to copy files to the (/dev/sda1) output dev. This has been fixed; · The image repository can now be forced to unmount before shutdowning/rebooting Clonezilla live; · Fixed the "-j2" option because it didn't work when restoreparts was used.

dots PardusOn January 21st, Gökcen Eraslan announced earlier today, January 21st, the immediate availability for download and upgrade of the popular Pardus 2011 Linux-based Turkish operating system. The final and stable version of Pardus 2011 is powered by Linux kernel 2.6.37 and it's available as Live and Installation images for both 32-bit and 64-bit architectures. It includes an enhanced YALI installer, a fist boot configuration tool, and the brand-new KDE Software Compilation 4.5.5.

Highlights of Pardus 2011:

· Linux kernel 2.6.37; · KDE SC 4.5.5; · Added the new Plymouth engine to handle the boot splash; · Added UUID and LVM/RAID support in the YALI installer; · Kaptan can now capture your picture and set it as a KDE avatar; · Set GNOME NetworkManager 0.8.2 as the default network manager application. · Announced by the openSUSE developers a little over two years ago, the openSUSE 11.1 operating system has reached end of life (EOL) on January 13th, 2011. The openSUSE developers, through Marcus Meissner, announced on January 14th the release of the final security fix for the openSUSE 11.1 Linux distribution and said there will be no more updates coming. However, a community project called "Evergreen" was already started in order to keep openSUSE 11.1 alive. Read more about it here.
