Welcome to the 118th issue of Softpedia Linux Weekly!

The following Linux-based operating systems have been announced last week: openSUSE 11.4 Milestone 2, ArchBang 2010.10, Calculate Linux 10.9 and Ubuntu 10.10. In other news: The KDE Project announced KDE Software Compilation 4.5.2; Softpedia presented the features of Ubuntu 10.10 Server and Enterprise Editions; Softpedia presented the features of the Ubuntu 10.10 Netbook Edition. openSUSEOn October 7th, Will Stephenson announced the openSUSE 11.4 Milestone 2 operating system. The second development release of the popular Linux distribution comes with some bleeding edge packages, including a release candidate build of the Linux kernel 2.6.36, as well as the usual array of bug fixes and updates.

ArchBangAlso on Ocrober 7th, Willensky Aristide announced the immediate availability of the ArchBang 2010.10 operating system. The latest release comes with a number of new packages and a few changes, but overall is a small update over the previous release which came just a couple of weeks ago.

Highlights of ArchBang 2010.10:

· VLC was replaced by SMPlayer;
· GPicView was replaced by Geeqie;
· Geany added;
· Dropbox added;

CalculateOn October 8th, Alexander Tratsevskiy proudly announced the immediate availability for download of the Calculate Linux 10.9 operating system. There are many changes in this release, especially the inclusion of the new Linux kernel 2.6.35.5, Amarok 2.3.1, and OpenOffice.org Office Suite 3.2.1.

UbuntuOn October 10th, Canonical announced the immediate availability for download of the Ubuntu 10.10 (Maverick Meerkat) operating system. Ubuntu 10.10 is also the thirteen release of the Ubuntu OS and it will be supported for 18 months on both desktops and servers.

· We’ve all got an image collection. Some we keep for sharing on Facebook, some are there for when we’re looking for inspiration, while many get lost in the clutter inside our folders. Making sense of our photo collection can be time consuming and irritating. That’s why photo organizing applications such as Shotwell are useful.

While some may argue that creating a separate database when dealing with photos is resource consuming, I didn’t experience any real issues with it. Frankly, many of us are at ease knowing we can revert to the original images anytime. Shotwell is a reasonable alternative to F-Spot, offering signposts to image organizing that most of us would do better with, than without.
