PowerArchiver is much more than just a tool capable of simple file compression/decompression jobs, as it doubles as a backup utility and it can also send data to FTP locations.
We have 50 codes to give away for this professional product to those posting interesting lines in the comments section below.
Creativity and originality of the comments are much appreciated, as well as humorous remarks, so dare to be different. You don’t have to show mad writing skills to increase your winning chances; a memorable line could be enough to land a free code for PowerArchiver in your inbox. PowerArchiver ( reviewed here) comes with a price tag of $31.45 (€28.75) and an extensive set of skills that covers not only file compression jobs, but also securing them through encryption, or backing up data and store it in FTP locations or on media like CD/DVD/BD. The latest version of the application sports increased compression power, thanks to a new ZIP engine. Converting archive formats between each other is also on the list of features of the app, the supported types being ZIP, 7-ZIP, CAB, BH and TAR. Backup function is pretty elaborate, as it makes available incremental and differential jobs and you can split the resulting files into chunks of the size you want. Note: You have 24 hours to post your comment from the publish time of this article. Your chances to win one of the 50 free codes are only as good as your comment. So make your remarks as honest and witty as possible. The winners will be picked from the comments section of this article, and will be contacted in 5 days after the giveaway expires. They will have to provide their full name in private (when required) in order to collect their prize. No other information except for your comment and the alias / nickname you provide will appear online. We urge you not to double post and, most importantly, be original because pasting from different sources on the Internet will get you kicked from the giveaway campaign. | Comment #15 by: Jerry on 24 Oct 2011, 12:15 UTC | reply to this comment | Hello!
I am using version 2008, which was together with the newspaper. Generally, it is already outdated version, but somehow it works. Once it was a free program, but need some time for him to pay and it's sad!
Certainly it is definitely better than WinRar application. It has more options for yourself. You can not pack files to Rara. But is this so important?! Certainly unpacks Rara. The program works quite quickly. Certainly compared to my version of 2011 is already slower. Where is the possibility of winning the latest werji 2011, is willing to write for this contest and greet hot! |

| Comment #28 by: antonytony on 24 Oct 2011, 13:29 UTC | reply to this comment | Until now i sticked on only to winrar and thought that it would be sufficient and it was the best but i was wrong. Softpedia lights up better softwares for its users.
Power Archiver is more than a normal archiver. It packs a ton of other features like backup, and command line versions.
Power archiver is special because unlike winrar, we can not only open archive formats such as 7z,cab,tar and many more, but also it has functions to create and edit it, which is supported only by handful of good softwares. I used it to open game files which had a cab archive , unpacked and repacked, to repair my installation as the disk was scratched so much that it was not possible to use it. Not only that, but it can be made to support more archive types by download of small files.
Apart from RAR, ZIP i also use 7z more because of its powerful compression.A game of size 3.5GB uncompressed was having a compressed size of just 700MB. Truely amazing. But i was unable to create 7z archives with winrar. But thanks to softpedia, if i win a license of this powerful software. I would be able to do this.
Since we have been offered a professional version. It includes a enterprise class backup function which backs up to 3 destinations even to servers via FTP. It also supports VSS which is supported only by high end programs, which even enables the backup of currently used files. It can also be scheduled and the format of compression can be chosen, from 7z to cab.
It also has extensive support for zip files. It can create archives of unlimited size unlike other programs. It is also said to be 3x faster than other programs.
All archives can be made securely and strong , as it has 5 encryption algorithms. It includes FIPS 140.2 certification, so it can be used in secured transactions of data even in military and government agencies.
Unlike other programs it has queuing feature and parallel processing feature without slowing down the system. I used to have problem using the system while creating an archive with winrar. With PA 2011 we can also repair damaged archives, create self extracting ones, split / merge archives, and also convert between the formats.
A feature which i saw while using winzip, viewing of files inside archive without opening, is seen here but a lot more powerful.
It also features automatic updates, and lifetime upgrades so it is definitely a top class product.
Like winrar it also includes support for command lime operations. It supports many features even in command line mode, like choosing the type of archive.
It really is a versatile product in its category and it is worth the price. It looks like it includes the best of best features which have been fine tuned for speed and performance. It would be nice if i win this one. Thanks in advance.....
It would be nice if you announce the name of the winners as many including me are eagerly waiting for it. Also please correct the commenting system, sometimes it takes a lot of time for being posted so many of us reposted. Could you do this softpedia.............. |
| Comment #29 by: Sudip Kumar Das on 24 Oct 2011, 13:33 UTC | reply to this comment | Pretty happy with 7-zip, which also has a 64-bit program. Still, won't mind a free lunch to find what it does for $32. |
| Comment #30 by: paddy on 24 Oct 2011, 13:36 UTC | reply to this comment | G'Day,
Wow, a Swiss army knife has nothing on this, talk about a multifunctional application (surely the Sumo equivilent for software), not sure if it will fit on my PC, but then again it will likely replace several other applications, such as backup, cd/dvd burner and ftp client and all with lifetime updates, niiiiccceeee, just the sort of software that i like.
It certainly has all the archiving formats that you could want covered and the ability to mount iso as virtual drive to boot. It even opens SquashFS and CramFS, these i use when creating bootable OS's and need to compress files that are needed for the OS to use, but i need to reduce file size to fit on small capacity media, they really have all bases covered.
From what i can tell this is a must have application and so i humbly request a licence for this amazing, multifunctional tool that will make my computing life complete.
Good Luck to All. |

As many have reviewed PowerArchiver in Softpedia here, PowerArchiver receives 5 stars from me for as well for its intuitive performance compared to the overrated WinRar.
These features makes Power Archiver really desirable for me:
*repairing corrupted ZIP archives with ease
*extracting multiple archives at once
*availability of backup scripts and running automated backups
*option to create multiple different archives at once and
*multiple encryption methods

| Comment #62 by: mkg_just4u on 24 Oct 2011, 16:13 UTC | reply to this comment | Again a very good give away today by softpedia. Thanks for this and again happy birthday. Today's give away is PowerArchiver 2011. In older days it was known as EasyZip. It is a great file archiver software for windows. This software is developed by ConeXware Inc. It supports a large number of archive file formats. On the other hand it also supports disc image file format. I have also used so many archiver software like 7-Zip, WinRAR, WinZip, PeaZip, etc. But, in comaprision to all of them, PowerArchiver is better. It has much more advance features other than archiving. It is also helpful in sending files over FTP. It has latest integration with windows operating system. It is enriched with most Advaced ZIP/ZIPX Engine. It has improved better RAR extraction and 7-Zip Compression. It provides latest AES Encryption that can't be broken. Thanks and looking forward for one licence... |
| Comment #63 by: Michał on 24 Oct 2011, 16:13 UTC | reply to this comment | Power Archiver. I think everyone know that name. It is the best program to archive your data. It can compress data to file ZIP, 7-ZIP, CAB, LHA (LZH), TAR, GZIP, BZIP2, BH, XXE, UUE, yENC oraz MIME (Base 64) and open files RAR, ARJ, ARC, ACE, ZOO
I think it's much better than WINRar. I know, because I have WINRar, but I really want it. If I won the program I will be very happy :)
In my opinion Power Archiver have only one defect: It cant compress to RAR archive, but it is ok, because 7ZIP file is more less than RAR.
Moreover it can make self-extracting files from ZIP and CAB files, in four methods Blowfish (128-bit), DES (64-bit), Triple DES (128-bit) i AES (128-bit)
Now for WINDOWS is even 34 programs
7-Zip
ArchiveExpert
ArchiveXP
AverZIP
EnZip
FilZip
IZArc
KGB Archiver
PeaZip
PicoZip
PKZIP
PowerArchiver
PowerZip
TUGZip
QuickZip
UltimateZip
WinAce
WinRAR
WinUHA
WinZIP
ZipCentral
ZipGenius
ZippHO
ZipWave
But one must be the best. So what is the best??? Of course Power Archiver!!! I have WINRar so I know what I say :)
Power Archiver have much more options, but there is to much to describe all of them, bu one more notable feature is Windows Explorer compatibility. It can see files in archive:
TXT, RTF, GIF, PNG, BMP, ICO, TIFF, GFI, SGI, EMF, WMF, PPM, Adobe Photoshop, Autodesk, Truevision, ZSoft Paintbrush, Kodak Photo-CD, JASC PaintShop Pro, Dr. Halo
I love you, softpedia!!! Please count me in! Sorry for my English it isn't really good :( |
| Comment #66 by: biki on 24 Oct 2011, 17:02 UTC | reply to this comment | I and we, evry computer greek searching a very good archiver tool....and giveaway and softpedia made our dream true.........thanks to softpedia and giveaway |
| Comment #67.1 by: JC on 24 Oct 2011, 17:59 GMT | Great contest! |
| Comment #68 by: Ashwin on 24 Oct 2011, 17:34 UTC | reply to this comment | Correct me if I am wrong, but I think Power Archiver is the only software besides WinRAR that can actually create a .RAR file. Of course you can tell me that 7zip's 7z format is good, and I would agree, but its not the best when it comes to compression. RAR file compression is much better than any other format, especially zip files. I noticed that Power Archiver supports internal viewing of several image formats and text formats. This would be highly useful. Overall, I can see that it has several functions that are not available in freeware alternatives. |
| Comment #69 by: Quamar on 24 Oct 2011, 17:42 UTC | reply to this comment | I don't know more about power archiver but know one thing that perhaps it may be the best archiver software for compression and decompression because softpedia.com has selected it. I thanks softpedia.com for great giveaway... i hope u might accept my wish.... |
| Comment #70 by: Punisher on 24 Oct 2011, 17:43 UTC | reply to this comment | I think this is the best winrar alternative. I've been using it (free version) for the last year. I'm very satisfied |
| Comment #71 by: Quamar on 24 Oct 2011, 17:43 UTC | reply to this comment | I don't know more about power archiver but know one thing that perhaps it may be the best archiver software for compression and decompression because softpedia.com has selected it. | Comment #76 by: Adrian on 24 Oct 2011, 18:48 UTC | reply to this comment | Nothing to add as to the overwhelming number of options this thing has built-in.
The UI and Explorer integration would make it easy even for my granny to use it.
Best of all, I think, are the free lifetime upgrades.
This says it all about the added value/satisfaction.
My hat is off to another quality giveaway.
Happy celebration Softpedia, keep it coming! |
| Comment #77 by: toppi on 24 Oct 2011, 18:52 UTC | reply to this comment | Hello again.
I have read readers opinions about PowerArchiver and compression - archiving tools.
Maybe WinRar is the best archiving tool, but I think that PowerArchiver is just a little different tool. First of all PowerArchiver is in three versions. Most advanced PowerArchiver Toolbox apart from standard features has also for example CD/DVD/BlueRay Burner tool and advanced FTP client software. Very important for me is the fact, that FTP client is secure and support three different FTP protocols like: FTP, SFTP and FTP - SSL/TTL. Other FTP clients with these features are very expensive.
Middle version - PowerArchiver Professional is great too. Very useful backup/archiving tool. You can make backup script with scheduler or run it on demand. Archive file you can put on other disk, CD/DVD or FTP server.
Standard version has only compressing tool but very nice in use. You can compress / uncompress from explorator context menu for example.
In all versions menu is clear and very easy. From time to time you can change skin of software. Very good is Outlook backup tool.
And at the end. PowerArchiver license is lifetime. For me is the most important thing before buying software. I don't like pay every eyar or for new version ;)
I would like to take a part in this Softpedia contest and in the future enjoy PowerArchiver! |
| Comment #78 by: Shishegar on 24 Oct 2011, 18:55 UTC | reply to this comment | Another great giveaway
Thanks softpedia |
| Comment #79 by: pss0612 on 24 Oct 2011, 19:26 UTC | reply to this comment | Time to end of trial-type programs.
I will not buy the program for archiving, will contest the Softpedia always a chance. It appeared that the program in the competition here is the best peer review.
Thanks guys for another cool contest and all the best. |
| Comment #80 by: RiriSimsim on 24 Oct 2011, 19:27 UTC | reply to this comment | I have never backed up my computer, but if You say that this can compress & back up to the net (maybe to Dropbox) , then it would be a big help to me. |
| Comment #81 by: yoyo on 24 Oct 2011, 19:54 UTC | reply to this comment | My girlfriend is coming home tomorrow so i have to archive and password protect half of my HDD. I really need this tool. |
| Comment #82 by: ha14 on 24 Oct 2011, 20:00 UTC | reply to this comment | Powerarchiver is well known for best speed, ergonomics, formats supporting, encryption...ability to send an archive to FTP, creating simple scripts to backup, optimize the size of the native file. Also there is PowerArchiver Command Line Support Add-On . The software is very flexible especially in business circle since PowerArchiver support the extraction of various archive format which is time saver, collaborators dont have to search for other tools, they are very well served by PowerArchiver, compression size can be tweaked making the file small easily send by internet and is bandwidth saver. View, extract Iso files or update and burn with PowerArchiver burner that can be launched in standalone manner. PoweArchiver is regulalrly updated and able to compete with other archive tools in high standard view. |
| Comment #84 by: Rizwan on 24 Oct 2011, 20:26 UTC | reply to this comment | PowerArchiver is one of the best file compression utilities available in the market, compare to 7Zip, WinZip and WinRAR, it has more file format support and notably fast compression and extraction rate. It is compatible with all current versions of windows including x64 and x86 plus its modern interface fully integrates with windows 7 and gives expression as windows native application. It has also built-in FTP client, so you don’t need to install extra application to access your ftp server. It also provides addons that can be manually downloaded from its website. PowerArchiver’s outlook add-on is one of my favourite; it helps you to automatically compress attachments in Microsoft outlook. Overall it is comprehensive suite of its kind, top reasons, why pick PowerArchiver;
• Attractive, modern user interface
• Huge file format support

PowerArchiver is so cool

You can extract, backup and do many other things,
the GUI is made for kings.
Here is the choice between explorer and classic style,
choose the one which makes you smile.
Context-menu has a real cool effect,
like extracting multiple files to seperate folders, that you select.
FTP and Backup features are also integrated,
which makes this archiver top-rated.
Featuring for this is unique VSS-backup-solution
which is the next step in enterprise backup-evolution.
Burning rounds this up to perfect user satisfaction,
like the very fast rar extraction.

| Comment #106 by: TBuck on 25 Oct 2011, 04:21 UTC | reply to this comment | From the website PowerArchiver 2011 supports or utilizes UAC, VSS, ZIP, ZIPX, ZIP/ZIPX, 7-Zip, Winzip, LZMA, JPEG, PPMd, BZIP2, WAVPACK, AES, FIPS, ACE, RAR, LGPL, PkZip, WZ, FIPS, 3DES, LZMA2, CAB, LHA, LZH, TAR, GZIP, BZIP2, ISO9660, ISOUDF, BH, XXE, UUE, yENC, MIME, RAR, ARJ, ARC, ACE, MSI, NSIS, CHM, DMG, RPM, CPIO, VHD, XAR, LZMA, SquashFS, CramFS, ZOO, WIM plus, WCX, PAE, Blowfish, DES, FTP, SFX, PACL, PAOP, HIPAA, UAC and VSS.
Check that out. Take a look and add it up. These people don't miss one single solitary letter of the alphabet. I mean they have them all covered, from A all the way to Z. Every single one of them without a miss in one small paragraph of acronyms. Let's see another package accomplish that extraordinary feat! Only the best could pull it off - they are very good.
Downloaded the trial and had a blast. This does away with a half dozen other utilities I have been using. Win7 64bit version. The layout is great, you have a choice between Novice users and Advanced users until you get comfortable with it. You can search for archives by type, preview files, unpack ISO files, super fast compression, adding, changing, emailing and many more options. Like the acronyms, the options look to have everything covered that I could want to do. Even things I don't know that i want to do yet.
I have gigs of static data (cd collection, old Documents, old reference material, databases, downloads) that hardly ever changes. I back up my system, active folders and email on a regular basis, but the tons of static stuff just takes up too much space on the external drive and slows things down so is not included.
This package can simplify and automate the compression, encryption, and archiving of all the rest of the crap. And if I do make a change can can incrementally add to the archives. I have already made a good start on this.
Thanks Softpedia for bringing another useful program to my attention. I am learning more about potential and possibilities following these giveaways every day. A license for PowerArchiver 2011 in my mailbox definitely would not go to waste and would get a lot of use. This is another great opportunity and good luck to everyone. |

| Comment #111 by: tylerward1982 on 25 Oct 2011, 06:22 UTC | reply to this comment | Wow! I woke up this morning, saw this article and died in my sleep. The only contest I'm bound to ever win (watch, it'll be true), is the "free coffin for when you die" sweepstake/contest. What'll know... I'd win that, lol. Anyways, PA has some good reviews and I want one of those free 50 codes. The only difference between me and everyone else is I'm willing to get on my knees.
You know, get on my knees and beg, "PLEAAAAAASE LET ME WIN!" Why... what were YOU thinking about? LOL ---I promise, if you let me win, I promise I won't fulfill any of the promises I'd make begging for it, I'd just pretend to full that promise (even though I won't), lol jk. I am kidding, I do promise though that if I did win, within a year I could get 3 people to buy this product and that's legit.
Anyways, I hope I win guys! |
| Comment #112 by: Corno on 25 Oct 2011, 06:29 UTC | reply to this comment | PowerArchiver has been around for quite a while. I used it in Windows 98 and absolutely liked it. (Before that I had used ARJ, which however was not developed any further). The only issue I encountered was a bug in the context right-click option, which sent the PC lagging, but that was fixed long ago. In all, a most recommendable software program. |
| Comment #113 by: perla_nocy on 25 Oct 2011, 06:41 UTC | reply to this comment | Please give it to me.

| Comment #113.1 by: farsa on 25 Oct 2011, 07:11 GMT | I Like this application for some reasons that I will give and prefer it to other Compression tools like WinRar
1.It's user friendly
2.It's fast
3.It supports many formats and extensions
4.It can open ISO files too so I can view the files in it and use it so that I don't need to burn the ISO file to CD/DVD to use them anymore
Thanks to Softpedia for this Giveaway |
| Comment #114 by: Grr on 25 Oct 2011, 07:01 UTC | reply to this comment | Thanks Softpedia.
Appreciate your choice of giveaways!! Too good.
PowerArchiver for me is useful in the following ways:
[all below on i5 core,XP-sp2 - environment. Comparision with popular 3 compression utilities.]
1. Highly stable. others have crashed. tested in low memory condition in VMware by tweaking RAM
2. higher compression rate = = smaller resulting file size
3. supports VSS, I use Outlook/pst files
4. supports all those compression formats that I have to use
5. better encryption schemes
6. AS SAID-update method "Patchbeam 2" looks promising
7. Comparatively low on system resources. Tried extracting W7 ISO image.
8. Bonus is the backup utility.
Only minus point is the disk space which is comparatively quite a bit more than other 3.
I would appreciate to get a license & be able to use PowerArchiver as my main compression utility.
Thanks,Grr |

It gives good LZMA2 compressions for RAR, 7Z and ZIP files.

| Comment #120 by: siddharth on 25 Oct 2011, 10:10 UTC | reply to this comment | Thank you so much for such a nice giveaway Softpedia.com.I always wanted to have this product on my pc.It is an all in one product which can archive, compress, extract, burn, convert, encrypt and even buckup up our data.It supports a huge range of formats including the most frequently and commonly used formats like zip ,rar,7-zip etc.I love this product as i don't need to have multiple softwares for doing stuffs as Power archiever alone can do work of five(burn cd,archive, compress ,repair files, backup data). It can also sent data to FTP servers with ease.
It can also work in command line mode.It is a way faster than winrar and winzip and can do that work which they can't do ;-) and that's why it is my favourite.I can also do or edit multiple files at once with this soft.It also have virtualdrive :).The most important thing is that it is very cheap in cost(only 31.45$) with lifetime updates for free :-D.I want this ALL in One product.Hope i win one of the license key of this product.I would also recommend it to everyone. Thanks to Sofpedia once again for organizing this Giveaway and also a very humble thanks to " Conexware corporation" O:) for providing the licenses of this ultimate software.

| Comment #121 by: Pradeep Singha on 25 Oct 2011, 10:38 UTC | reply to this comment | Oh I really like to use this application very much. It is very easy to use and has lots & lots of features that we cannot find in any other archiver. Well I like its functions like to open .zipx files because currently no other file archiver can open .zipx files except winzip - its creator, and I also like its feature to upload files directly to ftp. Good job they have done. I really appreciate it. Thanks a lot for the giveaway! I would surely like to win such a wonderful, easy and helpul program. Thanks! Hope I win one by luck. :) |

| Comment #125 by: trick on 25 Oct 2011, 15:16 UTC | reply to this comment | Power Archiver is the next program to come in my mind when it comes to archiving. I've used this app before and yes it does the job for you. Good archiving results, lesser chunks, more options than the other archiving app in the market. Though the price is a bit high, it is still a app that worth every penny. With it's unique modules, options and more capability, I believe this app needs to be more available in every consumer's pc. |
| Comment #126 by: preston1000 on 25 Oct 2011, 15:16 UTC | reply to this comment | I have been using winrar for years now but want to change and i have read great things about this program and think it may be better then winrar. |
| Comment #127 by: FARMER on 26 Oct 2011, 18:15 UTC | reply to this comment | At the beginning I wanted to thank you for another great contest. Because of that I use the internet a lot and I have lots of accounts for different sites and using e-banking is seen without a good password manager is torture. And that is why I participate in the competition for Sticky Password. Its advantage is that it integrates with most browsers. The big advantage of Sticky Password is a wizard that will make portable version of the program thanks to which we will be able to log in every place and on any computer. All data and passwords stored in the Sticky Password is protected with a master password so-called Master Password without the master password nobody has access to our valuable data. Sticky Password protect us from identity theft, phishing and keyloggers, for entering data and filling forms you can use the virtual keyboard so that no one will see what we write. Sticky Password has a feature to create and restore data so you will not have to worry about losing. A big plus is that we can do to restore a copy of the programs that once we used to gather passwords and data: Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox password, RoboForm Passcards , KeePass passwords, passwords LastPass as well as copies made by Sticky Password. The installation wizard automatically imports passwords from other browsers and managers passwords on your computer. Thank you for this great contest:) | |
