Generally it’s power users that recognize the importance of a firewall on the system. But with Online Armor from Emsisoft average users can benefit from the protection of a top notch firewall.

We’re putting up 20 licenses and, as usual, all you have to do is post a witty comment relating to the software. The regular value of the package is $40 and the codes are per PC, for one year.

Besides the firewall module the Premium version of Online Armor sports an impressive batch of security layers designed to protect Windows Registry from unauthorized access, detect keyloggers and generally all malicious activity on your system.

The features of the suite enable you to run your online financial transactions in the safest manner possible through its Banking Mode, get notifications for intrusions or shady endeavors from various installed applications.

Online Armor Premium is quite easy to handle even by the less experienced users. Its automatic learning mode and initial configuration drastically reduces the amount of alerts you have to deal with to.

This is also achieved through OASIS (Online Armor Software Information Service), a database listing programs that are safe to run on the computer and a set of known malicious programs. The list also includes websites of banks and financial institutions safe to browse to, which helps when running the suite in Banking Mode.

You can enable “install mode” when putting a new program on the system, so that installation routines do not constantly trigger pop ups.

RunSafer is a particularly handy option that lets you restrict the permissions of a program to those of a limited user account, despite the fact that you’re running with administrator rights. For a deeper look at the features of Online Armor Premium and the results of our tests you can head to our review page.

You have a week to post your message, until Friday, so that you can also test the program for a pertinent opinion. Don't forget that we need a valid contact email address.

For a full list of the software featured in our giveaway campaign you can check this article on a weekly basis, check the weekly giveaway tag or receive the info by following the Softpedia Giveaway Twitter account.

Note: The winners will be picked from the comments section of this article and we will contact them in 5 days after the giveaway expires. They will have to provide their full name in private (when required) in order to collect their prize. No other information except for the lines of your comment and the alias/nickname will appear online.

We urge you not to double post and, most importantly, be original because pasting from different sources on the Internet will kick you out of the giveaway campaign.

OA is the best firewall and other programs of this type can be disposed of by him to the trash. It is easy to use and provides very good protection for your computer.

Comment #6 by: Nick on 14 May 2011, 12:29 UTC reply to this comment

Great firewall!

Comment #7 by: John on 14 May 2011, 12:43 UTC reply to this comment

Hi. Can i have one?

Comment #8 by: Mannoroth on 14 May 2011, 13:03 UTC reply to this comment

Nice GUI. Minimum system resources (thought the start up feels a little slower). Easy to manage. Excellent HIPS nothing can get past it. Once it is configured through the safety wizard everything runs smoothly (minimal prompts). The oasis database should be improved.

Comment #9 by: Bero on 14 May 2011, 13:31 UTC reply to this comment

Online Armor Premium is one of the very good personal firewall software products because it anticipates all of the most current hacker tricks and includes the mechanisms to prevent security breaches. The product allows or blocks applications based on access to the OASIS trusted and un-trusted list. Emsisoft ( Tall Emu ) has successfully designed Online Armor to be easy to use. But, this is not a firewall for the average user.

Thanks for this giveaway.

Comment #10 by: Kapone on 14 May 2011, 13:34 UTC reply to this comment

Comment #21 by: catmando on 14 May 2011, 15:11 UTC reply to this comment

Hi Softpedia, I could use a license for Online Armor. At the moment I'm using 4.5 Free and running only the firewall module.

Comment #22 by: Shawn C on 14 May 2011, 15:24 UTC reply to this comment

Online Armor Premium looks like an awesome security program. I have been accompanied by some unease with the recent security issues both Microsoft and Firefox have. I personally have some online purchasing issues that stop me from ordering items from an array of different online retailers because you never quite know if it's going to be safe and hassle free. I think Online Armor would definitely be the "fix all" for my validated concerns and would love to try this product. I need peace of mind!

Comment #23 by: Shawn C on 14 May 2011, 15:30 UTC reply to this comment

I also would like to try this product because I can't seem to find an anti-virus/ malware program that doesn't utilize a ton of resources, therefore, I don't use one. After reading the into for Online Armor, I would definitely utilize this program because of the many beneficial features included.

Comment #24 by: Tiger on 14 May 2011, 15:38 UTC reply to this comment

Online armor is one of the best firewalls on market. I'd like to try it (and I'm sure I won't change it)

Comment #43 by: Boris Zerkovich on 14 May 2011, 21:54 UTC reply to this comment

Online Armor went from Australian Tall Emu to Austrian Emsisoft.
As Emsisoft already has Mamutu which is part Maori, this makes perfect sense.

Even if Maori is only 'near-Australian'...
No offense, Kiwi's. ;)

I've been using OA free since years and I am eager to use the full-swing Emsisoft package.

No need to write I'd love to win this Softpedia giveaway but here I do!

Comment #44 by: freddysppa on 14 May 2011, 21:56 UTC reply to this comment

thanks to softpedia for this opurtinity now i came to softpedia daily because softpedia can give me news about today cyber world and thanks again to softpedia and ARMOR

Comment #68 by: AliveNoMore on 15 May 2011, 06:52 UTC reply to this comment

The program offers pretty good overall protection and a decent user interface but it's more buggy compared to other products of its kind, less compatible with other security programs, and also quite a bit resource hungry. On top of all that it's an yearly license/subscription. One is better off with the free version - it has the same problems, but at least it's free.

Comment #80 by: Nosco on 15 May 2011, 09:09 UTC reply to this comment

It is a very solid firewall. Nothing fancy, but good HIPS and a robust barrier against unsollicited changes to your software. The only minor point of criticism I have is that it does not flag in the icontray if some features are unintentionally left disabled (as may happen after you have installed some programs and switched these features off to facilitate installation).

Comment #81 by: alansubandi on 15 May 2011, 09:11 UTC reply to this comment

I usually download whatever softpedia recommends as 5 star. I'll give it a go. I love when i just don't buy a software but those beautiful 5 star reviews that save hell lot of time confusing what the hell to buy and what not.

Besides these are the moments which take "not wanting to do " person away from pirating the whole * thing.
And i count myself as a power user.
I like it when companies sell the real deal what they are talking about. (* Power User )

I've been using the free version for a while now and would love to try out the antivirus features in the full version!
I like the configuration options, they're extensive yet easy to navigate once you try them. I can quickly fine-tune how any program should behave. Just a mouse click to switch between Allowed, Ask and Block. Color-coding makes it easy to spot different permissions in long lists of programs.
I like the pop-ups that tell me when a program is trying to get to the internet, this has been a great way to avoid using programs that "call home" too much. Summary: Online Armor makes it easy to protect my PC the way I want. Integrated antivirus protection would complete the wall of armor keeping me safe from all the nasties on the web!

Online Armor besides being a superb firewall also gives you control over the programs running on your computer and keeps the user alerted as to any and all attempts of any program to run or any suspicious activity

It uses Oasis which is a massive body of information including a trusted list and black list which is a tremendous aid and limits the need for pop-ups
and user intervention

I hope I can be one of the lucky twenty

same id the case with ur pc.
as the programmers and pc users are fully aware threats now a days because of several different things, they do not want to lose there data,
as it is important to them.......
there are different firewall but why this one, generally for sure why not to praise it if u get selected they will give it u for free, but in actual u need one to secure ur self but why this one, its because softpedia is master in choosing thins they have good eye, so u can relay on them !!

It's been so long since I have tested this product. The last time I've tested it, the product was buggy, when they were at version 4 as far as I can remember. During the installation, I had two conflicts with windows drivers and that, of course, was caused by the OA driver. It seemed that it was fixed in later versions, but the fear of having such conflicts again is still preventing me from giving it another shot!. However, after reading this article I can assure you that I'm so enthusiastic to test it out and even keep it on my production machine, since it's a top notch security program.

So, I would like to thank you for this great review, and I would be more than pleased to have a license for this incredible product.

Regards, a softpedia's fan.

Since Online Armor and Emsisoft joint together, the interface has changed into a look that's more Emsisoft-style (like A-Squared). The free version gives you a very good basic protection.
What I like the most, is the safety-check wizard. It's a prescan of your computer and it check's for malicious behaviour, bad software or unwanted auto-starters. It also decreases pop-ups when programs start.
If you don't want a prescan, you have the option to trust everything on your PC but I wouldn't reccommend this.
This firewall is very suitable for average users and gives a solid inbound/outbound protection and program control .
I'm currently using Online Armor Free and would reccommend it to everyone who doesn't win a license.

It's very easy to use, you don't need to be tech savvy to use it. You can do online banking without any worries. It's also highly configurable if you need to tweak some settings.

I can recommend this to anyone, even elderly people.

Wow I just read about this giveaway on wilders. It is such a coincidence because I am currently trialing Online Armour, and have found it suits my needs perfectly. Found that the new version 5 is much better than previous version (less popups overall, much lighter on the system and much better compatibility for 64bit OS). I would be thrilled to receive a license for Online Armour because I find that I use features that are not on the free version constantly (banking mode for example). Currently my setup is Online Armour in real-time and some on-demand antivirus scanners on Windows 7 64bit.

Comment #150 by: Teava Gica on 17 May 2011, 16:59 UTC reply to this comment

Online Armor’s philosophy about how to treat programs is to separate them into three categories. A file is known to be bad or known to be good or it is unknown. Bad files are on a blacklist. Good files are known to be good, so the user is not prompted about them. Unknown files trigger a popup to the user to make a decision. The firewall is strong partly because it never guesses. It knows or it doesn’t know or it asks the human to make the call.
Online Armor Premium is one of the very best personal firewall software products because it anticipates all of the most current hacker tricks and includes the mechanisms to prevent security breaches. Comodo Internet Security and Kaspersky Internet Security have comparably excellent firewalls.

Comment #151 by: tomasz.m on 17 May 2011, 17:23 UTC reply to this comment

Why do I want to win Online Armor Premium? I use this program since version 3. This is one of the best if not the best firewalls. In tests conducted by me with the CLT was the result of 340/340. For this wonderful Hips. This program works in three modes:
-standard, which is easy to use
-expert, which gives us greater interference in the program
-bank I use it for banking elektronicznej.W this mode the computer has access to only authorized online banking sites and its pages. So you can exclude pages impersonating the bank.
After buying the Online Armor by Emisisoft program is still under development. In time, showing the August version 5 was changed and added a human interface, among others, click File & Registry, through which I can protect your data from being infected, theft. This is my response to this contest. OA Premium is the best. :)

Well being an avid chess player the first thing i noticed was the kinght on the top and I thought to myself "these people have nice taste" :) Ever since I upgraded my PC 1 year ago I have been using the windows firewall, but recently got the urge to install a real third party firewall.

The search bought me here. I went ahead with the installation which went smoothly. But then I chose to do a scan of all my files, this surprisingly took a fairly long time, 20+ minutes on my computer. I suppose this would have saved me from a lot of unnecessary popups so I let the scan continue.

Once the program installed I did get alerts and I mean a lot of them! Every time i wanted to start something I would get an alert! Later I realized that this was the HIPS feature, I got a warning when I tried to disable it so I let it run and tried my best to answer the alerts best as I could.

A few days later I realized that the alerts reduced significantly. However I do have one gripe, since I do software development on Visual Studio 2010 I would get an alert everytime I modified the code and tried to run it, even though I had marked the software trusted. I suppose this is done for security reasons and does make sense so now I just put the firewall into learning mode when I am programming.

Overall I do feel a lot secure with Online Armor running and there is still tons of functions I haven't fiddled with yet. It also seems surprisingly light on the system. I have to say that I am fairly pleased with the firewall so far.

Comment #154.1 by: Nathan on 20 May 2011, 15:13 GMT

Sorry to jump in, just thought you may try the following: You can stop OA from displaying notifications that executable/component has changed (I believe that is the problem you're referring to in your comment) by specifying the respective folder(s) where your projects are as excluded from OA protection (select Options -> Exclusions tab -> Click Add button to browse for folder). This way you don't have to run in Learning Mode when using VS. Hope this helps.

Hai to everyone, i started thinking seriously about firewall may be this year because i had my first serious virus attack inspite of reputated internet security suite and i tried best to get it right but in vein and last i had to install my OS again, so i learned much after that, now i know things are not like before, so within last four month i have used many firewalls and security software, from that i learned one thing that all reputed security software lack a good firewall, if we seperatly use a firewall thats is good. So i tried all the leading firewalls like zone alarm, comodo, outpost, online armor and the firewall included in security suite. From all these software i found Online Armour very good, the main reason is that 1) During Installation no trouble 2) After installation also fine 3) On pc slow up 4) No Internet slowing 5) No worry while installing new software. So this all made me very happy about Online armor.I feel very secure when i connect to internet when i had onlime armor. Its has a good reputation Keep it up Online Armor. Best of the Luck be always in top of firewalls list. Bye

Comment #160 by: Augustine on 18 May 2011, 18:55 UTC reply to this comment

Online Armor at first starts in standard mode, which is easy to handle for every user. It is not about technical intricacies, but simply about the question: is a certain program allowed to access the Internet or not? A white list collects programs where our software ensures that they are secure, in which case the firewall automatically permits access. In expert mode there are many more options for experienced users. For example, it is possible to restrict access to a few chosen networks only and to prevent websites from specific countries which are known for spreading malicious software, from loading unwanted content. The third mode is banking mode which stands for secure online banking.
Keyloggers are a sort of malware waiting for key strokes invisibly in the background. Those keystrokes then are usually sent to a hacker - for example when entering a Paypal login, or the PIN of an online banking website. Online Armor works reliably here and reports all suspicious programs recording keyboard sequences. A permanently controlled whitelist collects the names of programs, which are assumed as safe despite such routines. Where programs are on the whitelist, Online Armor will not bother the user.
One silent method of sending users to faked Online banking pages is called DNS-Poisoning. Your own Internet Service Provider offers a DNS-Server, that will convert a text address entered in a browser to a numerical IP address. Clever cyber-criminals may redirect such requests to their computers where their own DNS-server is installed, which then leads the user to a phishing website. Online Armor Personal Firewall prevents that by rechecking all DNS requests with our own secure server. There will be an immediate alert, if the DNS-server used emits a different IP.
A lot of programs automatically start together with Windows - whether this is desirable or not. Online Armor lists all autostarters and allocates them a security status (secure, not secure, unknown). The user may then decide on his/her own whether these programs are allowed to start in the future or not. Online Armor again offers a whitelist containing many secure programs the user can safely trust.

P.S. I recomande this software for all.
Regards!

This is absolutely fantastic. I've been using the basic freeware version for about a week now, in conjunction with another fine Emsisoft product, Mamutu, an effective Malware scanner.

After trying out a number of other competing firewall products and protection monitors, I chose to go with Online Armor. I love the simplistic, yet powerful features of the user interface. It learns quickly and even quicker once you get up to speed and establish your rules set. I especially like the ease in which you can block IP traffic going in and out, ease of access to the logs and active open endpoint connections, with address resolution. Having been very impressed with the free version of Online armor, I am very eager for a chance to win a free copy of the Pro version. I'm very much looking forward to the secure banking and extra layers of security. I did not experience any overhead or lag while surfing with 10+ tabs in Firefox 4.0
Good bye to the red dragon, hello Online Armor

I use Online Armor since I use a computer ! I like it and use the free
version actually.
Some people say it "speaks" (pops-up) too much. To avoid that you have not only to authorize the process ("allow") but also to "trust" it (the line of the process becomes green in the Programs section).
You can also -if you really want it- disable the HIPS(nevertheless useful and strong) with a simple right click on the tray icon >>"Deactivate HIPS Features".
It has also an Anti-Keylogger function : once it found and blocked one in my desktop but the file was invisible and my antivirus could not detect it ! I guess antivirus are not so good to detect keylogger and I appreciate this function of Online Armor.
The "Runsafer" feature is important : it works a little like DropMyRights; right click(on the icon)>>Open safer
and the process you're going to open has less rights; this is very (very) recommended for your browsers
because if you dowload a virus, this one will have also less rights and will not be able to make lot of damages
in your computer.
In the Programs section, it is also possible to give less rights permanently to a process : choose (highlight) the process and click "Runsafer" : easy to do and undo !
It is very light for me (I use Firefox) and the Premium version has other features (Banking mode, etc.).
As a strong firewall, Online Armor is a big part of the security of my computer.

Thanks to Softpedia for this great giveaway!

I have tried and purchased many firewalls as well as recommeding and installing them for family members and friends. Most of whom want to be protected and once set up properly not have to worry.

I am presently using Outpost Pro and have had no problems with the exeception that there are a few Anti-Malware products it will not install and or have had issues with but otherwise a first class product.

I have previously purchased and used Online Armour Pro in 2007 and loved it. I am using a free firewall on two of my computers and would certainly appreciate winning a license for the Online Armor Premium.

Sincerely,
Ron

Comment #176 by: Nathan on 20 May 2011, 02:43 UTC reply to this comment

For the last 3 years OA has been protecting me in an efficient and confidence-inspiring way. During this time I've seen OA pile on the features and improve its strong protection to monitor ever emerging attack vectors, but keep the same streamlined, user-friendly interaction.

For a while, the * in the armor was the missing x64 version, but this has been resolved quite convincingly last year with version 4.5, the first release after the change of ownership. OA 5.0 brings further improvements in speed and functionality, such as File and Registry Guard, and the excellent HIPS continues to shine. The GUI has adopted the familiar Emsisoft AntiMalware look.

I miss seeing the tall bird logo [Tall Emu were the original developers of OA], but it's in more than capable hands [kudos to Emsisoft for keeping the product versions unchanged and continuing to provide a free version]. The friendly dedication of the old forum might have lost some of its aficionado appeal, but it's still a helpful and educating place.

Some of the highlight features for me:
Outstanding HIPS
RunSafer - I'm using this to set LUA privileges for Internet-facing applications, PDF readers and media players. I prefer this integrated approach, instead of using an additional tool
File/Registry Shield - a welcome addition, protection against malicious access and tempering
Phishing Filter and DNS Spoofing Protection
Banking Mode
Autoruns and Anti-Keylogger
Blocking traffic during system boot
Blacklists
Ease-of-use throughout

There are other worthy competitors in the segment [pardon my ignorance for limiting them to the following]:

Outpost Firewall - really strong HIPS, very responsive, customisable attack detection settings, rule presets.

Comodo Firewall - commercial-grade heavyweight, has a lot of excellent features [Defence+, BO Protection, Sandboxing, Cloud based analysis, etc.], but they come at a price - the tiresome interaction can make it an acquired taste. Comodo could be an overbearing vigilante, which sometimes gets itself confused in the internal workings of its own architecture.

Private Firewall - light-as-a-feather, informative reports, good HIPS/System Anomaly detection, quickly catching up the others mentioned and growing in popularity.

I've used these firewalls extensively and they are excellent too, but OA to me is the "Primus Inter Pares", the first among equals that I would most probably ever so slightly prefer, given an option. I'm expecting the results of this giveaway with a lot of anticipation [fingers crossed] - I'm looking forward to see [hopefully] the OA shield being displayed in the notification area of my taskbar - hard at work, but hardly obtrusive; composed and respectful in its effectiveness.

Thank you, Softpedia, for the excellent giveaway and good luck to all participating!

Again a very nice giveaway. To feel safe while browsing and to remain free from online threats, it is necessary to have a good firewall so that you assure there is complete privacy to your valuable data and safe browsing.
Though we have a windows firewall pre-installed, it is not effective at all.
But having "online armor" installed in pc will solve much of the problems. It helps in detecting malicious activities in pc, protects windows registry, and also detects key-loggers.And the most essential feature is that, it ensures our complete safety while carrying out online financial transactions, which is the most important feature.
Any pc user, will be more than happy, if he/she gets a program which can provide all the above online safety features. And i'm one of them.
So plzzz, provide me an opportunity to have this Online Armor premium version.will be thankful to you.
And thanks for conducting this giveaway.
Hoping for my good luck.....

it is Easy to use - Light on Pop-ups - Great Support "Online Armor (the paid version) is the best firewall I've ever tested, offering a blend of usability and hard-wired security that's near-ideal for maximizing protection and ensuring a good user experience
Online Armor is a powerful security software that protects your computer from unwanted external access. It prevents hackers from accessing your computer, stops malicious programs invading into your computer and sending your data over the internet, protects you during your online banking and transactions, and safeguards your identity. The software is easy to install and manage, and does not slow down your computer performance. The freeware version has slightly limited functionality and no automatic updates

This is a superb professional & highly customizable firewall, that offers an excellent protection for your PC.

It's very simple to install and use, unlike other different competitor firewalls, and as far as I know Online Armor Premium has passed all known leak tests to protect the host, as well as spy tests employing keyloggers and packet sniffers.

Even the FREE version of this great software beats many professional firewalls out there, but the PRO version stands out for its great and effective features such as:

* the file and registry shields
* the HIPS Module
* the powerful Phishing Filter and Online Banking Module, that prevent users from being tricked onto fake banking websites, by alerting them whenever the DNS from the ISP does not match with the OA safe bank site list or with a trusted DNS server.

If you combine this great tool with its "twin" EMSISOFT ANTIMALWARE and WINPATROL, it will be pretty impossible for any hacker to get into your system....LOL!

So please count me in for this amazing GIVEAWAY: hope to be the lucky winner!!!

Although I have not personally used this product, I am planning on installing it anyway when the internet security suite that came with my PC expires next month.

From everything I have read, it is an excellent product that has many powerful features, while still easy enough to operate that a novice computer user can understand it.

This is an excellent firewall. It has excellent HIPS, incredible leak protection. While setting it up is time consuming it is also comprehensive and is not hard. The RUN SAFER OPTION will make your Browser safe even without web security. It will also let you test filessent you or downloaded with complete safety. It is still an excellent firewall in itself.

This is better than any other popular anti virus and firewalls out there. It protects everything (maybe i don't need to elaborate because it has been specified by other users here) :) Even if I don't win this free give away, I'd still be loyal to OA and Softpedia. Nicely ace again by Softpedia. keep it up!

Comment #198 by: cutting_edgetech on 28 May 2011, 17:16 UTC reply to this comment

Online Armor is hands down the best Firewall I have ever used! I have been using it for years. Its light on resources, and it offers the strongest protection available. It has tons of features that other security software providers do not offer. Below is a list of a few of the features it offers. Once you switch to Online Armor you will never go back to your old firewall.
1. Firewall
2. HIPS
3. Anti-executable
4. Keylogger Protection
5. File & Registry protection
6. Host File Protection
7. Autorun protection
8. Integrate block list into the Firewall.

Comment #199 by: shaheen on 28 May 2011, 19:39 UTC reply to this comment

A really nice HIPS indeed. Sadly there are few HIPS which are under active development and OA is one of them.

You don,t need any other anti-malware, antivirus, antispyware etc with a proactive HIPS like OA.

While she's surfing the Net I cant be the knight in shining armor for my wife. So let Online Armor be the one. She needs OA's tough armor to fend off rogue attacks, particularly while coming out of her (online) bank (OA's banking mode). Not to mention I can configure the domains (trusted, blocked, protected) so that she cant go to malware infested sites or check out other guys (ahem..enough)!
