Technological progress has managed to change the way art is expressed, and yesterday’s easel and paint brush have been traded for digital tools. Our giveaway this week is for PostworkShop Artist Edition; we have 10 licenses to spare, in exchange for crafty comments.
The lines you drop at the bottom of this article simply have to be relevant to the application and the features it makes available. You can compare it to similar tools or express your experience with the demo version of the application which lets you become familiar with most of the options. Even if it is not the richest in features, the $49 Artist Edition of PostworkShop does not fall short of styles or photo effects. Besides the 400+ built-in styles for drawing, graphics, sketches, acrylic painting or watercolor, the possibilities are expanded by blending them and creating new layering effects. Taking a gander at the feature list or presentation on the developer’s website might send off users less skilled in digital imaging and photo painting; but the difficulty in handling the application is resumed to clicking on the right layers and blending them together in a creative way. So all you need to obtain unique results is a sharp eye for the fine arts. Your chances to win one of the 20 free codes are only as good as your comment. So make your remarks as honest and witty as possible. You have a week to post your message, until Friday, so that you can also test the program and form a pertinent opinion of it. Don't forget that we need a valid contact email address. | For a deeper look at the features of PostworkShop Artist Edition and the results of our tests you can head to our review page. | For a full list of the software featured in our giveaway campaign you can check this article on a weekly basis, keep an eye on the weekly giveaway tag or receive the info by following the Softpedia Giveaway Twitter account. Note: The winners will be picked from the comments section of this article, and will be contacted in 5 days after the giveaway expires. They will have to provide their full name in private (when required) in order to collect their prize. No other information except for your comment and the alias / nickname you provide will appear online. We urge you to not double post and, most importantly, be original because pasting from different sources on the Internet will get you kicked from the giveaway campaign. Giveaway campaign ended on August 05

| Comment #8 by: Mohan on 30 Jul 2011, 13:00 UTC | reply to this comment | Art is the expression of feelings, the way it is expressed has changed dramatically with the lapse of time. It has came into existance way back in primitive era. We can still find the traces of it in ancient caves. From caves it made it's way to canvas and from canvas to desktop, in this age of rapid communication, it has served as a basic tool for design, apart from a hobby art has wide scope and applications. The way it has made the way from different medium, tools used for expressing them have also changed from stones, brush to paint application. I still remembers the way i used to create the drawing on simple paint application which comes preinstalled on my OS. Oh God how horrible it was. Totally digital, it doesn't look like a real art at all. A perfect art application should promise a digital representation of a real picture, so the success totally depends how intelligent the application is. Hope postworkshop will go long way as far as new demands and expectations are concerned. |

| Comment #17 by: paddy on 30 Jul 2011, 20:04 UTC | reply to this comment | G'Day,
As an amateur traditional artist and sometime digital artist (mainly working with photographs and Photoshop) i was intrigued to see this giveaway offered and found it to be a nice drag and drop way of working to apply effects to images.
Postworkshop is available in 3 levels, free, Artist and Pro, we are being offered the Artist edition, which differs from the Pro edition in the following;
- limited to 2000px X 2000px image size,
- no plugin mode,
- 32 bit only,
- no video/animation batch processing.
The above not-withstanding the Artist edition is chock full of digital manipulation goodness, that should keep anyone busy with their images.
The website for the Postworkshop is very well designed, imho, with lots of tutorials in both video and text options and it is very comprehensive, covering most aspects of the program and what can be achieved with it, by the way the in program help takes you to the website, not much good for those not on-line, but the tutorials are available for download, so that is nice.
The program, in my case had to be downloaded via Regnow (Digital River) download manager, which worked fine although i find having to do the extra steps to get the software annoying, but that is just me.
The program itself is presented with a default view of "advanced" however you can change this in the "options" menu to either "simple" or "classic", which really only changes the work area view in minor ways, the bottom work area shows or doesn't depending on the chosen option.
The program uses layers with your selected images that you can then drag and drop various preset effects onto. These effects are presented on the right of the workspace in tabbed form, these tabs, "Drawing","Painting","Photo","Graphic Arts","Antique Photo","Special Effects" and"Building Blocks" in turn open up a plethora of filters that can be dragged onto the image in the workspace to be then rendered onto said image, with many of the effects having various adjustment options, when selected, under the "Properties and Preview" tab.
Unfortunately i cannot comment on the speed of the rendering, as i test these programs within virtual machines, which tend to have lesser graphic abilities and are somewhat slower than the guest system and therefore the rendering was somewhat slow for me, however the effects were quite good and you can vary transparency and blending modes for each layer which adds to the variety of finished effects when flattened to combine all into 1 final image.
Postworkshop Artist Edition is a nice piece of software that will not replace Photoshop in the hands of a digital maestro, but for the rest of us it is a quick and easy way to create nice digital effects without the headaches of learning a high end manipulation software.
Pros;
A easy to use way of applying digital effects to images.
Excellent website with plenty of resources.
Available for Windows and Mac.
3 parallel installs allowed per license.
Cons;
Online help only.
Fussy download method.
Note: The above comments are purely personal and subjective and other users experiences may differ.
Please count me in for this excellent giveaway thankyou. |

This is probably not a very crafty or creative comment, but i swear.. i am.. rather creative when it comes to anything else than typing! Anyway i'm a poor student, the 60 quid i have a month is spent on food :( Oh also.. that alice madness game, is there a pc version of it?

| Comment #25 by: Mr.Dave on 31 Jul 2011, 14:42 UTC | reply to this comment | This program appears to be just what I need to get to the next level in my digital artwork. The emphasis on blending layers makes me think they will provide more creative ways to do that. I'm currently using Photo Plus 9 from Serif, like it a lot, but its system of layers and masks is sometimes difficult for me to grasp and control. Please count me in for the contest; I'm looking forward to using PostworkShop Artist Edition! |

Although some function is available in Artist Edition, I really count on PostworkShop and its been great if I win one to robust my task in editing for my personal site. |
| Comment #29 by: comphelp on 31 Jul 2011, 21:42 UTC | reply to this comment | To begin with, what with the weight of a 61 MB installation program was literally a few seconds. Immediately creates a good impression of a well-written code. At the first start the program offers you a very comfortable, easily adjustable and very nice interface. You do not need to be a designer with great experience, that to understand the scheme of the program. All well and very clear.
Uploaded a picture, find and apply the desired effect. In the properties adjust all the settings as you would like.
That is, we bring your masterpiece to the graphic works of art. The program is able to perfectly mix the layers.
Experimentation with several styles may lead to the creation of your own style. This gives you an almost endless potential possibilities of the program, always ready to fulfill your graphic fantasies into reality. Very entertaining and useful program. For all its power the program uses only 141 MB of RAM. This once again confirms that the code is really well written. It is clearly seen that the program is written with love for their work, not just for that would make money.
I regret that earlier had not heard about this amazing and talented program.
Thanks Softpedia for another really great giveaway and thanks Xycod Informatikai Kft for really great software!!! THANKS! |

| Comment #37 by: JhonM. on 01 Aug 2011, 12:03 UTC | reply to this comment | User-friendly and know a lot about, like practical! Thank you Softpedia, good program! |
| Comment #38 by: ha14 on 01 Aug 2011, 12:13 UTC | reply to this comment | PostworkShop does a good job replicating real artistic looks, such as watercolor, pen and ink, etching, and painting. The program follow the contours of objects in the photo and takes it into consideration. combine different styles in layers and use the same type of blending and layer opacity options that you find in Photoshop. PostworkShop's Batch Processing is great and this will show the same effect will work on other similar images. You can save and reuse your custom styles with the Artist Edition. PostworkShop is also a lot more capable particularly as regards masks and a painting-by-hand feature. Take your vision to the next level. |
| Comment #39 by: madasakti on 02 Aug 2011, 02:17 UTC | reply to this comment | i like to try this .....maybe i will use it as new art on my desktop |
| Comment #40 by: zeusz4u on 02 Aug 2011, 08:32 UTC | reply to this comment | A simple, yet very useful tool for creating professional artistic images. I really liked the demo and I'm looking forward to win one of this licenses :). There are many other similar programs available on the internet but this one looks much simplier than other freely available tools, it also has more advanced features. Besides, you don't need photoshop anymore (at least I do not) if I use this program.
Digital photos and editing really makes our life simpler, we just have to get the right tools for it, and we can let our imaginations fly...
Softpedia, I really like your giveaway campaign. |
| Comment #43 by: degopaoct130880 on 03 Aug 2011, 09:06 UTC | reply to this comment | I have heard only the best about this program and I want to take part. Thank you and regards. |
| Comment #45 by: TheMokoda on 03 Aug 2011, 12:41 UTC | reply to this comment | If you have liked what you have seen some 'professional' do with photos - artistic effects and the like - and have wondered how cool it would be to do that kind of thing, you have probably thought about Adobe Photoshop. Great program, but Adobe expects two things: too much money and too much knowledge! While powerful, Photoshop is a beast to really get good at.
Enter PostWorkShop. This simple, but very powerful software brings you literally hundreds of cool, artistic, weird and even ugly effects, if that's your fancy. Not only can you instantly apply any of these effect in just a few mouse clicks, but if you don't find what you like, you can create your own! How cool is that?
The interface is very pleasant-looking and nicely laid out. Help is available to get you started (although it's online, a trend I wish would stop), and in very little time you get get some of the most professional looking effects I have ever seen from something costing far less than half your mortgage payment!
Creating your own effects is both easy and fun, and it's just a matter of dragging and dropping modules to combine effect types.
The great thing is, if you happen to be ugly (like I am), you can do some artsy stuff to photos of yourself and come off as being very cool!
Awsome, fun and very useful program. |
| Comment #46 by: paulcrousel on 03 Aug 2011, 13:58 UTC | reply to this comment | PostworkShop gives you very impressive results very quickly.
even novice amateurs will be able to use the software to create stunning, eye-catching images from a simple guided interface, also offers several options for saving the actual image files – including standard JPEG and PNG formats as well as the Photoshop native PSD option.PostworkShop Pro is a good value for the money, especially considering its high compatibility factor.
The Pro Edition allows you to create your own styles from scratch and even publish them commercially. |

| Comment #57 by: antonytony on 07 Aug 2011, 09:44 UTC | reply to this comment | A fantastic program from the softpedia giveaway.
I am very much impressed with this program as no other program which i have seen offers 400+ styles plus additional downloadable ones, plus we can also create our own using the editor. Their webpage below shows their awesome collection of styles which they offer for postworkshop.
http://www.postworkshop.net/style-samples
It is simply mind blending and perfect. The styles really make our photos look like a painting. It is not surprising that this program is #2 in the painting software review. It offers all the features for a reasonable price.
It offers features to auto paint, manual paint, customize brushes, layering, and offers an arsenal of brush types to truly be artistic. We can also add watermarks.
Their support is also equivalently good. They offer a separate webpage for tutorial.
http://postworkshop.net/tutorial.
So this program is very easy to use, and can be used even by beginners.
So another marvelous program from softpedia as usual. Sure be happy if i were one of those lucky winners. |
