As all the hardware fans among you know only very well, GeIL (or Golden Emperor International Limited, as the company's actually called) is one of the world's leading suppliers of various memory modules, designed especially for hardcore gamers, overclocking fans and technology enthusiasts who simply can't keep their hands out of their computers.

This is the reason why we've decided to find out more about what GeIL has in store for us and, with the help of Skin, the official GeIL representative for Romania, we've asked Mr. Hank Cheng, Marketing Department Manager for GeIL, a few questions regarding the company's current offering, as well its plans for the future.

Softpedia: OCZ and Kingston are pumping new DDR2 products on the market. Has GeIL's commitment to the DDR2 products been changed by the advent of the new memory standard?

Hank Cheng: GeIL's commitment to all memory products has not been changed as we will be launching new series of DDR2 and DDR3 in the second half of 2008.

Softpedia: The DDR3 memory promises twice the performance of the pervious DDR2 generation in terms of clock speeds, but its support is limited to a couple of high-end chipsets only. When will the DDR3 standard take over the market?

Hank Cheng: The demand for DDR3 will be more evident in Q4 of this year. However, a more obvious shift on the end user side will likely take place in Q2 of 2009.

Softpedia: Rambus won a major battle with DRAM chips manufacturers lately. How will the company's royalty claims affect pricing in GeIL's memory products?

Hank Cheng: Such event's effect on pricing should be at a minimal for GeIL compared to other memory manufacturers, since GeIL always keeps a healthy inventory and fresh stock control policy.

Softpedia: Intel's Skulltrail enthusiast platform is constantly gaining ground on the market. However, its architecture requires FB-DIMM memory, a product that is absent from GeIL's range of offerings. How come a high-end memory manufacturer missed the FB-DIMM train?

Hank Cheng: GeIL can easily produce FB-DIMM by industry standard today. However, GeIL will not release FB-DIMM or any other server DIMM until our latest Die-hard Burn-In Technology is completed and fully implemented to our production line in Q3 of this year. The DBT will set a new benchmark for the DRAM industry and that will be GeIL's standard.

Softpedia: GeIL is very well known for its commitment to the gaming world. What are the company's future plans regarding this particular area?

Hank Cheng: GeIL will continue to commit to provide the gaming enthusiasts all over the world with customized gaming memory products to meet their exact needs. The Black Dragon and BD EVO ONE Quad Channel 8GB Kit were just a start.

Softpedia: What do Black Dragon and BE EVO ONE bring new and innovative to the gaming-oriented systems, in terms of performance?

Hank Cheng: The Gaming Series - Black Dragon and BD EVO ONE - use 8-layer PCB and IC that are specially selected by our EVO III fully-automatic IC tester for high performance and maximum stability. GeIL sees "stability" as one of the essential performance elements for gamers besides speed and capacity. Any fast memory without stability is no good to any gamer whose victory in the game, besides skill, depends on the stability of the PC system hardware.

Softpedia: How does GeIL intend to increase its marketing share and compete against the other players on the market?

Hank Cheng: GeIL intends to increase our market share with high added-value products, more meaningful marketing events/promotions, competitive pricing and higher quality customer service.

Softpedia: What are GeIL's plans for the European market in general and the Romanian market in particular?

Hank Cheng: GeIL will continue to strive for excellence in providing the European market with innovative yet practical products in all segments meeting each market group's need. A more comprehensive and attentive customer service and tech support structure is in the works, too. GeIL will be setting foot in the professional SI channels, providing industrial specification products utilizing GeIL's IC testing and sorting know-how together with the newly introduced Die-hard Burn-in Technology.

In Romania, the pre-installed PC system solution market still seems bigger than the DIY market, and as GeIL continues to push our brand in the DIY upgrade and retail channel segment we are also looking to grow our market share from the SI channel as well.
