Softpedia Exclusive Giveaway: 40 DefenseWall Personal Firewall Licenses

You rarely see a campaign on Softpedia that doesn't promote spyware blockers and this year's campaign is no different. Today, we're offering you the chance to win a license for one of the most popular adware / spyware / keylogger / rootkit blockers on the market: DefenseWall.

DefenseWall Personal Firewall is not your ordinary firewall. It won't annoy you with learning modes, ports configuration or endless popups and it's fully compatible with any software configuration you may be running.

DefenseWall offers a different approach: instead of wasting time patching every security hole an app might breach, all you have to do is mark that app as untrusted and it will never be able to harm your computer.

By restricting an app's rights, malware components will no longer be able to infect your workstation or even 'call home.' So whether we're talking about known or unknown malware, security breaches will no longer be a problem, because they won't have sufficient rights to perform any unwanted changes.

DefenseWall is the first security app that offers enhanced system security without forcing you to waste time learning about its configuration or possible security holes. Here's your chance at winning a license (worth $39.95) for this useful software: leave a comment below explaining how you'd put this program to good use and the most convincing posts will receive one of the forty activation codes.

one of the best firewalls. whish i am a lucky winner

Comment #2 by: DaniD on 28 Dec 2012, 17:33 UTC reply to this comment

This great security software can be use as an extra layer of protection for our systems using a great HIPS and the new sandboxing technology. DefenseWall labels the applications on Windows system into "Trusted" and "Untrusted", through this preventing those who are considering unsafe to harm your system. It can be use by advanced and novice users because it does not have learning modes, popups and is not extremely configurable (it is "install and forget" type of security software). The only thing you must do is to install it on a clean system, syde by syde with an antivirus and that's it!

Hi!

DefenseWall Personal Firewall - the world's first personal firewall, a sandbox.
Pros DefenseWall compared to other program for that matter:
- There is no learning period (as in the classical solutions).
- The absolute minimum of the confirmation windows in the industry.
- Full compatibility with other security solutions.
- No need to configure anything.
- Do not need to verify the changed application.

Best regards!

At the outset, thank you for the wonderful gift of such a competition.
DefenseWall Personal Firewall is one of the most powerful computer security software. It offers an excellent firewall and provides secure web surfing, protects the system from malicious sites. It is characterized by speed of action and built-in sandbox, which is used to place the so-called suspicious files. sandbox. DefenseWall Personal Firewall effectively stop almost all of the most dangerous pests that spread on the Internet. Among them we find among other viruses, Trojan horses, keyloggers, rootkits and adware, spyware and other malicious software. The program is very easy to use and will not cause any problems even for novice users. All uncertain applications will run and tested in an isolated virtual operating system environment, while offering additional security for the user. I used to use this program. It was great. This program fully protect my system. I did not have any infection. Robust firewall is essential. You have to protect. It is a pity that my license has expired. I dream about that win. It's a great program.

Hi softpedia,

I have a small business in which I have to put songs, pictures & videos to customers who come to my shop. They don't have much knowledge about system and how to put songs in memory card so that they can listen them in their mobile. In doing so I get to earn my living lively hood. But the one thing I hate is the amount of virus that get to infect my system and I have to sit almost 4 to five hours for two to three months in a month even though I have installed comodo antivirus. If you are generous enough to offer me one license I would use it to restrict the execution of malware from the usb flash drives and thus would stop my system from getting infected while I transfer the files from PC to usb flash drives, memory card etc.

I really tried a lot of different security programs which in different ways prevent infecting the system. But this program is definitely for me one of the best and so easy to use. DefenseWall Personal Firewall is world's first sandboxing-style personal firewall which provides robust protection from threats and with minimal pop-ups. It is one of its kind firewall which you need to install and forget, it will silently do its job in the background. Trusted and untrusted applications, clear and simple as day and night, good and bad. And that's it! Thanks to Mr. Ilya Rabinovich on this great program. Thanks to Softpedia.

I Love It, I want it, I need it :)
Defensewall Personal Firewall the one and only 100% security solution for Windows 32 bit.

Ok, first of all I want to say Thank you Softpedia for all amazing apps, Softpedia is one of the best (personally I think is the best) websites with programs for almost all platforms (Mac, Linux, Mobile and many more). On softpedia we can read amazing reviews, news, download games, drivers, and programs for all kind of users (novice and avdanced). All programs are clean, there is no spyware, adware and any other malicious code.Softpedia you rock! Many thanks to all Softpedia staff, guys and girls you are amazing.Big Big thanks to you all.

Ok, now something about Defensewall Personal Firewall.

Defensewall Personal Firewall is a gem, the one and only 100% security solution for my Windows (I have Windows XP home 32 bit).It works much different than any other Firewall.Defensewall Personal Firewall is a very powerfull Firewall that can run alongside any other firewall installed on your system, silient, powerfull and very easy to use (even for papa and mama).DWPF is the world's first sandboxing-style personal firewall solution and divides all applications into 2 groups ('trusted' and 'untrusted'). All untrusted processes/files has limited rights. So for example if you download a malware by untrusted web browser than that malware has limited rights, and if you run it then he (malware) will not harm your system.Love It.

DWPF is able to protect PC with installed Windows OS from any malicious software like spyware, botnets, adware, keyloggers, rootkits, etc. , identification theft when you browse the Internet and many more .DWPF use advanced proactive technologies : sandboxing and virtualization.I have tested DWPF on my system and I must say that is It uses minimum of system resources (10MB).

Defensewall Personal Firewall provide 100% protection ( look at the MRG Flash Test where Defensewall Personall Firewall has blocked all malware samples)
http://malwareresearchgroup.com/malware-tests/flash-test-results/
You can see at the AV - Comparatives (Single product review - Defensewall HIPS ) to
http://wwww.av-comparatives.org/images/stories/test/single/softsphere-en.pdf
Defensewall Personal Firewall scores always 100%

Defensewall Personal Firewall has sandbox, HIPS, Firewall and restriction policy, thats all what I need to protect my PC.
Softpedia please count me in.
Best Regards
Danny

Understanding and creating rules for a firewall is a very time consuming and forbidding/confusing especially for the newcomer in town. And the learning curve for a firewall takes time also because rules can be created but it may conflict the application that you need or may affect the way you use the pc as well. Some until now still shy away from firewalls or use the built-in for Windows. But 50-60% do not know how to configure it well for better protection. This is a reality that soon all pc users will have to go through since these days a firewall is a necessity. The approach of Defensewall is an ideal way so as not to be intrusive to your brain as it protects you.

Comment #20 by: drwoo on 28 Dec 2012, 20:53 UTC reply to this comment

Hi, if I´ll win a license I will install and keep DefenseWall as an extra measure of protection as it can run "side by side" with my current antivirus in order to keep my system protected against any sort of malware threats. I like it´s minimalist interface and that there are no signatures to update as everything is based on splitting the apps on the computer into two categories: trusted and untrusted.

Comment #21 by: noEdge on 28 Dec 2012, 21:08 UTC reply to this comment

This is a very strong security program, i have been using it on its own without any realtime antivirus and never been infected, its very easy to use, kind of set and forget security program. You can put one of antivirus out there and make your computer almost invincible, because defensewall would stop the attack and your antivirus just need clean the remnant of virus.

Comment #22 by: Achsy on 28 Dec 2012, 22:31 UTC reply to this comment

In a world of abundance, we can obtain so many useful resources and tools online very easily. Despite our being selective and careful on what we access, particular malware and rootkit may eventually hit and force us to perform troublesome and costly repair on our devices. Taking more proactive security measure to protect ourselves from unwanted intrusion into the devices, therefore, is mandatory. DefenseWall Personal Firewall can be our first option for such measure as it offers enhanced system security without steep learning curve. Thanks for this excellent giveaway.

Comment #23 by: allin77 on 28 Dec 2012, 23:16 UTC reply to this comment

Setting the firewall system is not easy. There is no possibility of control of the system tray. DefenseWall Personal Firewall is a very intuitive and effective program, and easy to use. The program interface is transparent and does not cause trouble.
Thanks :)

Comment #25 by: Belgrade on 29 Dec 2012, 01:56 UTC reply to this comment

I think DefenseWall is at the moment the most user-friendly security application. Default settings are optimal, tweaking might be dangerous in some cases. Firewall is not a typical one , the whole concept is to virtualize and sandbox, that' s why you might consider DefenseWall with firewall as a proper internet security application of its kind. Firewall is only to ensure that what's untrusted( restricted) can only communicate with outside world in untrusted( restricted) environment- basically speaking. I think this why DefenseWall firewall is not even registered in windows security center, because it can easily coexist with any other firewall installed on your computer. For that reason I wouldn't recommend turning off any other firewalls installed on your computer ( including Windows firewall obviously), though I don't know if it is a developer recommendation as well.
Great software and great giveaway, count me in, please. Best regards!

I've always been interested in computer security and normally I would not mind to learn new things in order to understand how to work and use an application that has proven powerful, the problem is the computer that I use are also used by the other family, which has a different character with me
they usually complain when the confirmation dialog comes up a lot and did not know what action to take, Defensewall is the application most suited to my condition, if the application has been installed on my computer, my family will no longer be bothered by the many confirmation dialog that will confuse them
and most importantly, my computer is safe and everyone is happy, Softpedia I'm very grateful to you for making this giveaway I hope you choose me to be one of the lucky participants

Comment #40 by: Grr on 29 Dec 2012, 12:13 UTC reply to this comment

Thanks Softpedia.

Let me tell you that I have been a user of DefenseWall Firewall. It's just Superb, believe me.

There is some ambiguity with the name- "Firewall" as in true meaning "DefenseWall Personal Firewall" is NOT like a traditional Firewall. Rather it is based ONLY on HIPS (not Shikara's hips don't lie....lol)

The HIPS technology keeps monitoring the processes/applications running on your system (unlike just the internet access to/fro in firewalls). HIPS also keeps a strict eye on System Areas & Registry.

An example- your browser is allowed activity inbound+outbound on standard port 80. Now assume some trojan (or any other bad guy) could take benefit of that port by hijacking your browser and cause damage. Your firewall doesn't bothers as port-80 is a FREEWAY. Here HIPS comes into picture as it finds this unknown "bad guy" and alerts you, Boom...you block it. Sounds simple..huh..

Additionally, DefenseWall HIPS incorporates a sandboxing approach (in simple terms a layer between your real physical system/disk and applications/browsers/etc).

DefenseWall HIPS keeps an eye on both- incoming connections for Good Guys (Trusted), as well as Outgoing Connections. Anything that doesn't fits this criteria is considered as a Bad guy and marked as Untrusted. All untrusted guys are dealt in JAIL (read sandbox layer).

So in short, DefenseWall controls your network + applications + processes - marking each of them as a Good Guy (Trusted) or Bad Guy (Untrusted).

As a WARNING- Do Use it with great caution if you are not aware on the process/application, else be prepaed for nightmares.

Can't end without ranting about no x64-bit support. On the contrary they still support Windows 2000!!!!!!!!!!!

I would greatly appreciate on winning a license for the HIPS..ouch...DefenseWall Firewall.

Thanks,
Grr

For interested users read below on HIPS:

Comment #41 by: Paf Borg on 29 Dec 2012, 12:38 UTC reply to this comment

Currently I’m using a security suite that includes a regular firewall. I’ve tried to use a standalone firewall but, as I don’t know much about these things, it messed up my computer and I had to uninstalled it. I didn’t know how to configure the firewall, and many of my programs have stopped. From what I’ve read, this program is highly rated because it is like an “intelligent” wall that protects the not-so-intelligent users like me: DefenseWall knows the untrusted applications, those applications that are opened doors to the real dangers from the outside world, and it isolates these so they cannot contaminate in any possible ways the rest of the system, no matter what lousy actions the user does. So it really could be the right firewall for those who don’t know much about security measures.
Thanks for this opportunity and Happy 2013 :).

In today's world, it is important to have an excellent security package that helps in preventing different exploits from attack a machine. Defense Wall defends against malware, rootkits, keyloggers, spyware and adware. I look forward to receiving a license so I can increase the security on my system. Thank you!

if I win I will pair with my MBAM Pro. because I believe that both software will complement each other. so far I have repeatedly replace antivirus. to get the best combination. but it happens, my computer performance becomes very slow. perhaps because I was too small RAM capacity. according to the reviews that I read. DefenseWall not need large RAM and I liked it.
hopefully, this is the best combination that I make.

First of all, I wanted to thank you for such a great contest. DefenseWall Personal Firewall is a decent piece of firmware to protect your computer. I use it for several years. On my computer to protect it because I only use enough for me. Speaks in his favor, and a simple user interface is that user interaction is kept to a minimum. On the plus side deserves support. Developer is always available to us and help in solving problems related to the program. Thank you and I wish you all good luck;)

Comment #53 by: lanzone on 29 Dec 2012, 19:06 UTC reply to this comment

DefenseWall Personal Firewall is really advanced piece of software which when used well can make your system completly secure without using additional AVs. It is lightweight and minimalistic so user can barely notice its existence. Main disadvantage of it, is that less experienced users may find it difficult to setup and use, also sometimes program questions and popups can be confusing for newbies. But that doesn't change the fact that DWPF is great application.
Thank you for this giveaway and I hope I will win a copy.

Comment #66 by: Ganesan on 30 Dec 2012, 21:16 UTC reply to this comment

Defensewall is not your grandfather's firewall with simple bi-directional control nor your father's firewall with a simple hips thrown in.This is a firewall with a built-in sandbox, light visualization, file and registry protection with rollback feature, hips and last but not least it brutally separates your program into a trusted and untrusted list further giving you granular control not only of your network but also your computer in off-line times having a negligible memory consumption. Defensewall also has a separate browser for your banking/shopping needs which spares you the headache of incompatible plug-ins.This simply replaces atleast 4 programs and sits well with any other security program you might use.A simple 4 step installation followed by a lifetime of peace.A further advantage is the developer Ilya himself answering your queries, making this a must-have.

This is a very different and intriguing approach.
It sounds like it could be the right solution for some of the folks I help who are not technically oriented and have no interest in constantly needing to guess the right answer to normal firewall questions.
Would love to have a chance to try this out and put it through a full test.
Thanks for the opportunity.
Best.

DefenceWall is an example of how a person with vision and technical excellence can develop security applications providing uncompromising protection and define an elusive technological path to follow for the heavyweights in the industry.

DefenseWall presents a shift in the protection paradigm, successfully replacing a handfull of traditional defense mechanisms [signatures, heuristics, behavioral analysis, etc.], with partial virtualization, sandboxing and HIPS.

What the dimunitive application achieves with an outstanding and elusive simplicity [apart from saving users from the associated overheads, such as software and definition updates and tinkering with firewall rules] is an excellent protection - one look at the various tests shows the benefit of having DWPF included in a layered security approach.

You never get a second chance at making a good first impression and DefenseWall does exactly that - from the no fuss, blink-and- you-missed-it installation through the unassuming GUI, to the uncompromising protection.

Thank you for the opportunity, Softpedia, and good luck to all participating!

They say that prevention is better than a cure. This applies very well to Defensewall Personal Firewall. Its killer feature that is the deal sealer is its ability to work without the need to update constantly (since this is based on a user configured list of trusted and untrusted apps) and its sandbox. The sandbox prevents the listed malware or untrusted program from infecting the computer system or participating in a network attack (think spam or hijacking). Best of all, I could shop online safely without worrying about someone stealing your identity or credit card number because of the * boxing layer of protection Defensewall offers for my choice of browser. This program sits nicely in a niche between an antivirus and a firewall and can work alongside your pre-existing ones. That means I can have an additional layer of protection that does not bug you constantly to update like an antivirus or ask you to verify a program's trustworthiness like a firewall without the need to uninstall the antivirus nor the firewall. I have to say that this is a pretty sweet must have for me with such features mentioned above.

My licence is almost over so joining this giveaway is a must for me.
I am using DWPF for about 2 years now and I cannot imagine switching to anything else at the moment.
DWPF is my only security tool running in realtime on my machine because it is extremely light and powerful plus it doesn't bother me with unnecessary pop-up's - perfect security solution for me.

You can click every file and every site and don't worry about a consequence. If you have only an antivirus you must have lucky that it have in their virus database.

I have been on the lookout for a firewall which is minimal in intrusiveness and configuration, not that I am shying away from extra effort, but I don't want to spend further time on it. I want to configure it once, let it work with minimal interaction and stay with the peace of mind that all is working well in the background. And this program seems to have, at least from the write-up, the right balance of effective functionality and minimal personal effort to achieve it. I would put it to use in my current setting which includes a strong anti-virus and anti-malware softwares.

DefenseWall is the best program for Windows protection. DWPF is a barrier for malware!

in my experience, just good antivirus is not enough for security today, i didn't know how the virus attacked me, the antivirus didn't react or give a warning at least, i still don't understand that. so i come to a conclusion that i need more 'defense power' for my security. this software looks like a capable one to do the job side by side with my antivirus, that's what i think. well, i'll try my luck in this contest. ofcourse i have plan b if i don't get it :) coz i do need better security power. please count me in. thank you.
oh, and Happy New Year to everyone :)

DefenseWall Personal Firewall is not your average packet filtering application. It is intended to be used as an extra layer of protection for your system and it can run side by side with your antivirus product as well as simple firewall programs (as the default windows firewall).

DefenseWall uses a policy-based sandboxing technology to protect your system. It might sound complicated but this product is extremely easy to use and unlike other similar applications it won't display numerous pop-ups requiring your assistance. Applications allowed to access the Internet (Internet browsers, IM, P2P, e-mail clients, etc.) or the network as well as applications residing on removable drives or in Shared folders are considered to be opened doors than can provide a way for malware to reach your system. DefenseWall labels them as "Untrusted" and prevents them from altering your system. Every file created or process launched by an Untrusted application is also considered "Untrusted". In addition to this DefenseWall also prevents them from accessing the Web without your knowledge.

Defense wall divides the applications in two groups Trusted and untrusted. Process launched by untrusted applications are untrusted. There is no 64 bit support yet.It is a very powerful security software for a 32bit system. It runs fine along with your other security software's . For a layered security approach its one of the best tools you want to have.It has always remained a must have security software among the geeks.

The "bad guys" don't want you to know about DEFENCEWALL, install this HIPS software in a freshly formated computer and they will be out forever.

If you install DEFENCEWALL in your computer,
then you will have a windows with the security level of linux.

I'll use this licenced Defencewall in a 'Terminal Server' that will not have antivirus.
I know that Defencewall is very efficient on resources and will not slow down this TS.
The terminal server will be used in a elementary school for 60 to 80 users.

I know about this beautiful small piece of software since 2004, that year I whised to have DEFENCEWALL... I think 2013 is my lucky year.

Thanks.

Hello,
I have always been very impressed by DefenseWall Firewall's reputation; its results at the different tests made here or there are very good.
It is available in lot of different languages and this is a good thing because it is a little complicated to understand it at the beginning; it has lot of options and an expert mode.
It provides both a sandbox and a firewall.
It made me firstly think to Sandboxie but it works in a different way even if there are some similarities : if one run Firefox in the untrusted zone and then delete everything, it is a little like if one run it in the sandbox of Sandboxie and then don't recover anything.
As a firewall, it has a "banking" mode. Some innovation consitute a significant progress and I guess sandbox and banking mode are good examples of that. Its anti-keylogger function is also useful and should become obligatory in this kind of software. It runs only on 32bit operating system and that suits me.

User must choose what to put in the un/trusted areas and what to keep after a surf with the help of an antivirus. So at the end, user has the last word and must use its brain, what is finally not a bad thing at all !

Thanks to Softpedia for that great giveaway and Happy New Year.

If there is one thing I have learnt from since using computer, it's that no security suit can give 100% protection from malicious programs. This is the first time I head of DefenseWall and it's truly one of its kind! The unique features if offers will surely put added layer of security especially for untrusted applications. I would definitely give it a probe if I win a license of this awesome program..

Your Review of DefenseWall Firewall impressed me so much that I now want a license.

I especially like DefenseWall's different approach: All that I have to do is mark any new and unknown app which I want to try and test as untrusted and it will never be able to harm my computer. That's great and just too good.

Thank you for this giveaway and the opportunity to win a license. The New Year will be full of happiness and safe with DefenseWall.

Defensewall Personal Firewall is one of the most efficient and yet the lightest security applications. This is a very powerful tool, even in the hands of a newbie. Protection is all silent and automatic, but without compromising any security aspects. In this department, Defensewall is light years ahead of its antivirus "competitors", because it simply relies on better security concepts, which are sandboxing and virtualization. In contrast to antivirus software which relies on blacklisting and signatures, Defensewall dooesn't need updating on a daily basis, so basically it's always up-to-date. Defensewall is definetely a future, for quite a long time now, all it really needs is good advertising and marketing. Please count me in.

Comment #114 by: SRaul on 24 Jan 2013, 19:48 UTC reply to this comment

The way Defensewall operates is a step above the rest since HIPS has been a staple security layer. The way that Defesewall HIPS virtualizes and sandboxes applications or elements that are classified suspicious has been the brains for other such features of the competition(say, Avast's auto-sandbox and Comodo's early version 5 sandbox). Though imitated, Defensewall's proactive approach is still unparalleled. The silent firewall plus the HIPS and it's performance for all users makes it easy to use even the non-acquainted. Thanks for this opportunity to have a license Softpedia!

Comment #115 by: Bjourne on 24 Jan 2013, 21:03 UTC reply to this comment

Defensewall's approach is original and has been the basis for some of the security applications that have gone the way of virtualization. Firewall is not like the ordinary 3rd party one's that let's you create a gazillion rules. Firewall is only to ensure that untrusted( restricted) can only communicate with outside world in restricted environment. The whole concept is to virtualize and sandbox, keeping you safe from those classiifed as suspsicous/keeping them away/isolated from your system is the proactive approach that makes it a user-friendly firewall/hips combo in town to date. Great work here Softpedia and do count me in for this giveaway!
