This is an honest review of almost 1 year user of AIS, which I won from last December quiz.

Avast! Internet Security may not be the best product (although 'best' is considered as very subjective). Yes, there are arguably better ways if you want better protection such as virtualization, HIPS, etc which moves from traditional concept of signature-based security program. Avast! may not always have the best detection rate (but always been in top 5 in almost any independent test). It may not come with lots and lots of features.

But despite the shortcomings I've stated I'm still using it. Why? Because for any average user, it is much more than enough! And contrary to other security software which manage to get high detection rate in exchange for high false-positive rate, Avast! has very low false positive rate. Even with me always installing and uninstalling software, it is very rare for Avast! to encounter false positive. And I will trade slightly lower detection rate to high rate of false positive rate any day.

You can say anything about Avast!, but one thing you can never ever deny is it is truly, truly light. In fact it's one of the lightest suite you can find while providing good protection to its users. The slick look and interface will also appeal to novice users to the advanced user who want simple protection (or use it as one of component the security set-up).

With it being suite, it comes with bells and whistles which are surprisingly good. SafeZone for internet banking, manual sandbox for virtualization, silent firewall that protects inbound and outbound connection. All of these but still managing to be one of the lightest suite in the market.

It is a absolute masterwork, and the saying "Save the best for the last" definitely apply here in Softpedia.

Avast Internet Security reminds me of how Avast antivirus free protected me in more than a decade ago( when they were moving from version 3 to version 4). There were multiple protection modules made it the coolest free antivirus on those days. I recommended my friends to use it as it remains one of the solid protection for windows pc. Some purchased while some use the free one. Scanning speed is excellent and it uses very few resources. The only problem I have discovered so far is the slowness in deleting the files in sandbox.firewall is very easy to be configured with the clear graph of network flow. Congrats Softpedia for giving this excellently simple suite!

I have been using avast antivirus free version for a few years since I ducked Norton at that time. It has secured my computer from malwares so far. I think it is as good as any paid software. I believe avast internet security can give me even better all-comprehensive protection. I hope Softpedia can award me with avast internet security.

Avast Internet Security 6 is excellent and has a nice interface. It provides sandbox virtualization, website reputation ratings, firewall protection, antispam, site blocking and on-demand scanner. It does not slow down my system. The detection rate is much better since they have introduced the auto sandbox feature to keep suspicious files from infecting your system. Best of all, it is so easy to use unlike other suites which are too complicated for the majority of users. The compatibility is excellent, works with all of my programs without any issues, the resource usage and system impact is very light. False positives are much lower than other security
suites. The auto decide feature on the firewall works excellent. I have tried some known malware programs and Avast has either auto-blocked or Asked about allowing connection to all of them. This is the best and ideal security suite I like most and would rank it to 5 stars.

I have tried avast internet security and found it extremely light on my laptop, but i admit to have uninstalled it for nothing, but to try out other internet suites. Honestly,if i have any chances of getting it back i would not do that agian as i have found avast totally effective against all viruses and malwares. I used another free AV before, but always failed to protect my laptop from threats. I found Avast from Google. After reading many comments about Avast, I decided to install it on my laptop which had previously been cleaned with a rescue disk. Then I did Avast boot-scan and clean up hundreds of threats on my laptop, which can not be done by the rescue disks. Now I always recommend Avast to everyone who came to me to fix the laptop / PC. Avast even the free one is great. I am very satisfied with it complete protection for the free antivirus. None can match avast as a free for it complete protection.

The combination of both anti virus and internet security in one package has always been a deal sealer for me, especially when it gets the job done. Avast rocks!

I have had my problems with Avast in the past, but am running it on all my home PCs now as it offers me better protection over AVG. Keep up the good work on a great product.

I have always loved Avast free version antivirus. And it is an exceptional giveaway to offer 50 licenses here. Avast hasn't let me down with detection, has remained light and the Internet Security Suite offers a safe browsing feature for doing online banking that few people know about. It opens a special version of Google Chrome in a sandboxed environment so a person can make financial transactions online. I've not seen test results for this feature yet but I have tried it and it seems to work well.

One feature of a program I always look for is customer support. let's face it, most security programs will have a hick-up from time to time. But when I have a question about Avast I always get a quick response from their online forum.

If there are any negatives about Avast Internet Security there would be two I am aware of. The first is that the sandbox feature is very basic and does not yet add a tremendous amount of security. I expect this to improve over time as the behavior monitor of Avast is rounding out nicely as it is further developed.

The second issue with Avast I have is that I have noticed that when I submit a missed adware or spyware there is not a quick signature update for that missed malware. I have submitted missed spyware in the past (verified by a majority of VirusTotal scanners) and see the spyware is still missed two weeks after being submitted. I realize antivirus programs get thousands of new malware across the internet daily but I wish there was a more streamlined way to submit missed malware to Avast.

avast is a really effective antivirus software, i already used it & i want to use it again.............

avast antivirus is good , but , avast intenet security is the best for net with very low cpu usage .

i love tis antivirus as it has very good detections engine very light to resources and its interface is great . and the one thing which i like the most is the human sound system when it calls whenever it detects any threat or updates itself .according to me this by far the best antivirus in market .

all you ...oh okay not all but some of you guys are ridiculous, avast in version 4 [from what I remember] was horrible... trojan's and rest of gang under 18 years old, was still let in on the disco and that was boring... when you visit "more" dangerous page or search on every site, you may have been sure, that you'll got some viruses... from version 5 protection was better, but on some 'weak's" computers, avast was more less in 'Kaspersky' situation, that mean; bother your system, probably now it is better. Protection is good , but still not perfect, sandbox is weak and firewall is only good. In some test's avast failed... you can search on yt. So that IS isn't very good. Why I write that comment? because I tried to win licence for my friend who is acctually 'Avast fan' and have no money for licence.

Avast it is an excellent anti-virus solution that I use about 8 years. Of course, like any other virus scanner also sometimes makes mistakes.

Where to start

I had previosuly been a user of Norten Anti Virus all my life. I would pay the subsciption free, yadda, yadda, long story short, my subsciption ends, so i give Avast a try, upon recommendation from my friend.

After installing the program, I update and run the scan and immediately the software finds at least 4 infected files that Norten left behind, and its only been scanning for a couple minutes.

The layout is the best ive seen, clean, aesthetic. Its simple, easy, does exactly what i want. And i dont have to look at a picture of some guy in a stupid doctors outfit. everytime i click on it.

The free version of this software works better then the paid version of many other softwares, has more features and better live protection as well.

Not to mention it uses half of the memory that norten use to use.

Fast file scanning, i can scan 400gb on my drive in about 2 hours.
Doesnt bother me when im using the computer. Whenever I had norten it would just always bother me with popups, your subsciptions ending, blah blah, this sits there like its told, and barks when someones at the door. Which is what an antivirus software should do. I dont need some program thats gonna take over my desktop with all its crap, i need a solid reliable anti virus program. And over the past ten monthes I have been using Avast free. Ive had less trouble, then i have had in the past ten years with norten or avg.

Avast is truely delivering someone genuine to there customers and they dont even ask anything for it. I can only assume the full version takes this to the next level.

I have been using avast free edition for several years now and am in fact very happy with it. It totally kicks * over other software of similar comparisons. I've never used a better anti-virus software hands down, and I'm a high-grade techie! I like the fact that I can, for the most part, just leave it to its pertinent parts all around the clock. I don't use the sandbox feature too often, but like the fact that its there if I want to. There couldn't be a better anti-virus around than Avast!

i am trying the free avast. Right now, it seems to me Mosoft doesn't trust anyone working inside Windows . Many AV progs. i am using get interferring or misdirection or hiding from the Windows' internals. I mean those AV helps are not running smoothly on my 7. Except avast! So far no hitch and and some intercepts even though with some features off. I really want a full capable avast!

Avast is a very good internetsecurity suite. IT has very high detection rates, but its firewall using windows firewalls's api's is a minus point. Avast also has a good behavioral blocker. It is also light on system resources and does not slow down the internet. I would like to win a license please count me in. The only problem I faced with avast is that if i install web-rep plugin avast refuses to update and update fails. To solve this I have to re install avast without the web rep plugin to make it work. I hope avast developers fix this problem. I also like the way I can seamlessly install another avast products license key and it gets converted to that version. For eg upgrading from Avast Free to Avast IS is seamless. Thank you hope i win a license.

I paid $120 for 3 years of this one, in the middle of the subscription, some notes to share...
Has sandboxing ability built in for running anything that you are unsure of, and works flawlessly.
For inexperienced PC users, this suite takes some getting used to, but is thorough.
No anti-virus is perfect, a couple times, some things have gotten by it, I scan with other programs though, that are free malware finders/killers and got rid of them.
It has prevented viruses from infected web site links on several occasions that were links I clicked from search engine results.
The A/V updates at least twice a day, I have it set for automatic and pops up and female voice tells me. (can be turned off)
Good luck on getting it free, worthy suite for Firewall / Antivirus.

I've tried a vast number of antimalware programs over the years. For the last 11 months I've been using Avast Internet Security and I've been vastly pleased with it I'd rather to continue using it. High detection rates, built-in sandbox feature, light on resources and it never annoys me!!! Plus, it's easy to suspend protection for those apps with tricky installations.

The first year after buying a computer i used Northon. Despite the repeated assurances of Northon is that my computer is completely secure, clean and reliably reflects all attacks by hackers and viruses grew, computer became slower and slower and eventually became quite ill to think...
I realized that the patient needed urgently to the emergency room. Finally i lost confidence in Northon I began to test various anti-virus programs and found the best among them. Avast I liked it at once. And although he could not cure all diseases after Northon (had to reinstall again OS) but Avast clearly found all viruses, worms and Trojans.

As a software tester (a hobby) i came by a lot of security suites. Apart from one of the best malware detection rate (which is around 95-98% for zero day treats) i find it that Avast IS has by far the best interface with all the info i could need and all of it is arranged very well. It is really light suite so it wont slow down the system, but than again (except Kaspersky) not many will. I would gladly change my protection suite for Avast if i do fget the chance from this great giveaway. Good luck to all.

Best all around-light suite at the moment! Detection is getting better. Behavioral shield has improved from being a passive one. Webrep too. SafeZone is a very useful tool especially for online transactions. Auto-Sandbox has also improved quite good on deteting keyloggers. Virtualization Sandbox is okay and is like RunSafer. Would love to have one as my license will expire soon. Firewall needs some work especially on leaktest and application termination but it's a decent and light one. Can be augmented by Process Hacker. Count me in please :)

Improved features like sandboxing and a secure browser. And its WebRep(somewhat similar to WOT) toolbar will become a useful site rating tool once it accumulates enough user votes.

Firewall is decent but some improvements are needed as this one is a suite. But this has to be noted, Avast has a useful Network tool like Trace Route and IP Address or Domain details. I'm already and Avast Internet Security customer and I am very happy with it, but my subscription is about expire, shouldn't I win a license I'll renew my exisiting one or I shall install Avast 6 free for sure.

I find myself very comfortable with Avast IS 6.01 as it is very light in system resources, it comes with many lovely features such as a perfect online protection which includes:
1) Web protection
2) Script protection
3) Network shield to prevent known malicious sites to load
4) Sandbox technology to safely surf the web (similar to sandboxie)

I am not even concerned by drive-by-downloads and keyloggers as the Safezone feature is able to create a fully isolated environment, just like a second virtual O.S and NO malware can infect my real O.S.
I can shop on line with no worries at all.
Other features I like are the Behavior Shield( a kinda of light weight sized HIPS) and the Avast IIS mail shield and antispam.
Avast IIS built in firewall is easy to configure and to use, very good for a home user.
Avast has fast and accurate database signature updates and a friendly community which are remarkable with no doubts .

Avast is highly customizable, this is a point of strength more in my opinion as you can install only the features you need.
Worth a mention is the Avast anti-rootkit module which is based on Gmer technology. Enough said!
Rootkits are the most nasty malware as they are hidden and can be installed without user notice. A rootkit can harm you PC and cause big headaches;).

I could spend hours to praise Avast, I'd rather to stop as I feel myself thrilled thanks to this wonderful giveaway.

I've used Avast for a year--maybe two. What impressed me about this product to begin with, is that our IT guy used the free version to clean up a computer at work. I installed it on all of my computers at home that night. I have no problem with it--it runs and stops me from corrupting my computer. Love it mostly because I can't afford to pay the IT guy what my work does. I use Malwarebytes along side it and it doesn't seem to have conflicts.

I recently downloaded a strategy game that seemed good. I liked it a lot but after the first run my security programs started giving me some red signals. They were more alarming than usual so I didn't feel comfortable to use the game and I was disappointed. Then I thought that it was a chance to start using virtual environments, so I downloaded in a hurry Sandboxie and - with quite some curiosity - I gave it a try. Long story short, the strategy game run without problems and I was exited for starting a revision of this genre.

The moral of the story: if you really want to win a license from Softpedia for the program you like, do so the right moment and not the next day, when it will be about another giveaway...

And, now talking about Avast! Internet Security. Great thanks to alwil from Czech. I love only and only avast. I have fallen in love with it since almost 2 years. I have used its all versions and products from older to the latest. Presently, I have been using genuine Avast! Internet Security, one of the 10 licences awarded by Softpedia few months ago. Great thanks to softpedia for this. There is no any other like it. There is no problem in my pc since 2 years. I am very happy with it. It is a great guard for my pc. Proud to be an avast user. I keep searching and downloading viruses in the web but they are crushed in seconds by avast. As there is a saying that "When we run away from problems then they chase us. So, never run away from problems. Chase them and let problems run away from us." In the same way viruses run away from avast. I use to recommend my lots of friends to use Avast. But my so many friends have no internet connection, so they could not update avast. Hence, they give their flash drives to me to scan first on my pc and then they insert it in their own freely. I become very happy when I see the red message emerging from the right bottom corner with unique alert voice. And, then I get it scanned totally finding lots of infections and making flash drive clean. We don't need to do any thing, avast does itself its recommended actions. While other anti viruses hang out when cleaning dangerous viruses. But, avast's orange keeps on rotating and dancing which ever virus or threat there may be. There is almost no false detction. The best feature of avast is speed. It never slows down my computer. It loads first at the right bottom clock corner of pc. After it, other applications come on loading. Its updates are very small and frequent. It can be updated even on slow connections. Its skin is also so funny. Avast says "Be Free". Really, it is correct. I am absolutely free since 2 years and I will remain free in coming days until there is Avast. And, free in monetary sense as well. We don't need to pay if there is avast free anti virus. I always prefer AIS "Public/High Risk Zone" firewall mode to get protected with any hacker of the world. There is also silent gaming mode creating no problem while playing heavy games. I have never used its network lock feature because there is no fear though not locked. There are a lots of scanning modes. I have also never scanned complete pc after installing avast. Because, I am sure there is no infection at all. We should remember that "Prevention is better than cure", so we should not let virus to enter at all rather than curing after entering pc. Its real time shield and anti spam are of world class. I am a computer technician, fixed a lot of computers, and I always install Avast because of their good performance. There is always room for improvement though, what about if a pendrive was already checked, to be able to recognize it and not check it again.

Avast has become the clear leader in Internet Security with really no close competition.

Avast is one of the better anti-virus programs on the market. It's certified by almost all the major virus labs, and consistently performs in the top levels of virus and malware detection. I've used Avast, both the free anti-virus and Avast Internet Security, and this is what I discovered.

Avast Internet security is chock full of features. It includes an anti-virus program, firewall, 8 different malware shields, a sandboxing feature known as Safe Zone, and different tools that protect the user while connecting to social network sites. Avast Internet Security also protects a user's identity, and filters spam from his/her email inbox client.

Initially, I was attracted to Avast Internet Security's wealth of features and flashy GUI, but I had a feeling it was going to take forever to learn how to use all of the program's features. I found, though, that every feature was straight-forward, easy to learn and operate, and came with plenty of help literature.

As with all new security software I install, I ran some security tests on Avast Internet Security to see how it would fare against certain attacks. What I ended up with was mixed results.

Avast's anti-virus engine did great. It didn't let a single virus or contaminated file near my machine. Avast's way of protecting its users from detected malware is to disconnect from the site or the download link, and it worked like a charm every time. The only thing that detracted from the anti-virus portion of the program was that I was constantly being asked to virtualize (sandbox) programs I downloaded, even though the software was completely safe. Maybe Avast should invest in some sort of white or black list to help minimize this issue.

The firewall, however, left much to be desired. Avast's firewall program is initially set to 'automatic', which means Avast decides what is or is not allowed. Several tainted and unrecognized programs were allowed to access and then run on my machine during testing, on the 'automatic' setting. I then changed the settings to try to heighten the firewall's sensitivity, but the results were pretty much unchanged. In the end, I had to specifically block the "bad" programs if I didn't want them to access my computer. The firewall did do a bit better when I tested it with PC Flank, however, and ended up blocking many of the test's trojans and "bad" packets.

The Safe Zone portion of Avast Internet Security was really neat. Upon clicking on the Safe Zone icon, I was immediately transferred to a secure desktop and browser. I did some keylogger tests while using Safe Zone, and it completely blocked all the malicious software. I was very impressed.

In all I would say that Avast Internet Security is a safe bet. I only used their 30 day trial, but I did put the software through its paces during those 30 days. Knowing what I now know, I would feel safe using the program again.

I had Avast IS for a year, version 6 has put them up there with the best (was really impressed). My subscription ran out and I actually won a year of Bitdefender Total which would be good but I just can't get used to the firewall. Would be great to have Avast back. Avast is arguably the most recognized anti virus at this moment in time! with its slicks looks and excellent protection its become a big name in homes now, where as before hand AVG was the most used. It is the one of the lightest anti virus that out there atm. I have never used the full suite and would love the opportunity to use it...it has a sandbox on top of an already great virus protection and now with a firewall you would have to do something really stupid to get a virus if you had avast installed. Pirate talk is funny but please don't make me walk the plank and consider me for this softpedia. Thanks guys

I've used many other antivirus soft-wares like Norton and Avira but I find avast! the best as it doesn't slow my computer and automatically updates itself. It also exceptionally detects and removes viruses and I loved the sandbox feature.

It's been awhile since I used Avast and it was just the free anti-virus program. I've never tried Avast Internet Security, but I would really like to. I've been using KIS and my subscription is about to expire and it would be so awesome to win Avast Internet Security. 2nd October, 2007. Yes; that is the exact date when I bought my first computer. It has been more then 4 years since and all these years I have tried most antivirus but none of them fulfills all my requirements as far as there free versions go. Most of them have so many limitations. Every time I decide to try out some antivirus other then avast, at the end of the day I end up uninstalling that antivirus and re installing Avast. I have been using Avast since its version 4.8. I feel as the days are going by this antivirus is becoming more and more mature and it's interface is just getting better and better.
Features that I really miss when I use other antiviruses:-
1) When it comes to scanning my system and removing those viruses Avast does it better then most other antivirus I have tried.
2) Auto sandbox feature. It was really a important addition to the security suite as there are some applications that one would like to check in sandbox before really installing it into the system.
3) Boot-time scan feature. This is very essential feature for a antivirus to have and most other free antivirus don't give this feature. I simply love if a virus is not caught in a normal scan it will definitely get caught during boot-scan. I make it a not to boot-scan my system twice a month
4) Webrep. Surfing internet and opening unknown websites can be risky at times, here comes the webrep feature that really helps me out to understand whether it is safe to follow a link or not.

Now on the downside I would want to mention that at times when Avast discovers too many viruses in a flash drive or something and I try to delete all the viruses found at once it just freezes and the avast real-time shield stops functioning. I have faced this problem few times and most of the times it just gets resolved when I restart my system but a couple of times I had to completely uninstall the antivirus and re-install it again.

Other then this Avast is a very good antivirus and all my friends use it. I highly recommend it to everyone around.

I am using Avast about 4 years. Indeed, it is a best antivirus for home users.

Avast has very low false positive rate and one of the reasons is that the database is regulalrly updated, Avast do not slow down pc even when the dedicated firewall is used since in auto mode will do the job, Auto sandbox feature will ensure that malwares will not distrub windows OS. Personal experience with avast free versions is very positive but in current days a stronger version of Avast is necessary and now if you have childrens that use the pc then avast is a great choice since will deny access to accidently visited dirty sites.

Please be advised that avast! Internet Security 6 has just been released. Many users are upgrading to this new version, so our chances of survival is reducing drastically. We can no longer defend ourselves from avast! 6.
Please make sure that any computer you might infect, does not have avast! installed, otherwise you may become a victim of avast! 6. The new avast SafeZone sandboxing technology may mislead you so you may be feeling safe in that environment, but you are not. This sanboxing technology will destroy you and will save the computer.
Virus definitions are updated several times a day, so even if you're new, your chances of survival are minimal.
Spreading through e-mail is also a bad choice as the built-in e-mail protection module will not let you in.
If you're a rootkit, still no chances of survival when user is executing a boot-time scan.

In conclusion, the final countdown has started, we cannot survive if avast! 6 Internet Security is installed - so pay attention. This is the most dangerous software people have ever created against us.

Avast is one of the biggest providers of free security software, but it has recently been giving its paid-for versions more of a push.
When it launched versions of its programs last year it gave them a makeover; previously the programs were rather clunky and technical-looking, but the new look was clean and professional.
The new version of the program doesn't make as many changes – in fact, it looks similar to the previous one. The Internet Security edition includes an anti-spam tool and a firewall – an alternative Avast Pro Antivirus 6 includes all the security features except those two and is good if you want to use the free firewall built into Windows.
We would recommend the Avast firewall, though, as it gives lots of configuration options but was still easy to follow. You can download the Avast Free Antivirus product and get the same level of protection, but it doesn't include the innovative new Avast Safezone that's in both paid-for versions.
The Safezone improves upon the ‘sandbox' feature of version five. That allowed users to open potentially troublesome programs in an isolated mode so they can't cause problems on the PC. If you get sent an email that looks dodgy but you want to check it, you can open the attachment in the sandbox. There is now a helpful option to automatically run new programs in the Sandbox.
Safezone extends that to an entire web browser that's boxed off from the rest of the PC, so you can surf any website without any danger to the rest of the PC. But its usefulness does depend on the user remembering to enable it.
Otherwise, not much has changed. The program's controls are well laid-out and easy to follow and configure. A feature that will be familiar to all Avast users is the audible alerts whenever a virus is found or the program is updated. But this can be turned off easily.

At Second,the avast owns great scanning speed.It means that it will not cost too much time before I try to run a strange file.What's more,I am very please for its high detection rates.When I decide to run a strange file,I am more likely to put the execute file into avast's sandbox.Through the sandbox,I can keep my clean files clear of the malicious files.In this way,avast evidently lowens the risk for when running a strange files.I think it is an advanced feature which makes me relaxed when facing the virus.
At last,the avast has a feature named SafeZone.It makes me relaxed when I am shopping or banking online. And It leaves no opportunity for hackers to steal my personal informations,so it is my favorite feature in avast Internet Security.
