A short while ago, Pepsi unveiled a brand new ad for its Skinny Can during New York Fashion Week. It had actress Sofia Vergara on it, internationally known for her killer curves – but it showed too little of them. Still, no slimming by Photoshop was involved, she says.

After the unveiling of the ad, countless voices online said that it was not right to have a woman as gorgeous as Sofia digitally altered into looking slimmer because it send the wrong message across.

Sterner voices even said that Pepsi was “irresponsible” for doing this to Sofia, one of the few stars in showbiz to speak up in favor of curves on women, and not a postergirl for size 0.

Sofia too has joined in the talk but she’s taking Pepsi’s side on it, insisting she hasn’t been slimmed down digitally, the Daily Mail reports.

The star has been contacted for comment on the latest controversy and her take on it is that she only appears slimmer in the ad (photo attached) because of the angle she’s been photographed from.

The styling also helps create the impression she’s slimmer, she says.

“That is not true at all. I saw the pictures, and now with technology, they’re looking at it on the screen right after they take them. It was just a different way of dressing me,” Vergara explains.

Even so, few are convinced that no Photoshop magic was involved in the making of the ad, mostly because of how oddly thin her should and arm appear to be, as compared to Sofia-the real deal.

“Vergara’s less than skinny upper-body parts have been minimized by photographic angle and a freakish shoulder placement,” Steve Hall of Ad Rants says, as cited by the aforementioned Mail.

“Vergara’s positioned so you can’t see most of her face and body, and her arm is whittled by an oddly-placed shadow,” Margaret Hartmann of Jezebel agrees.

And these are only two of the biggest e-zines to point out that there is definitely something off about Vergara in the new Pepsi ad, as a simple Google search can attest.
