Facebook and Twitter users are not the only ones targeted by cybercriminals

Social media networks such as Facebook, Twitter or Pinterest aren’t the only ones used by cybercriminals. Security experts have found that Odnoklassniki and its 45 million customers are also a tempting target for those who want to make a profit by duping others.

Bitdefender researchers have noticed that the social network service designed to help Russians and other users from former Soviet Republics keep in touch with their friends and classmates is flooded with malicious campaigns.

Some of them advertise fake account hacking tools that actually hide malware designed to steal passwords, FTP details and even Bitcoin wallets.

In other cases, the crooks register fake accounts that impersonate individuals who work abroad. Then they utilize them to contact the target’s friends and relatives to ask them for certain amounts of money.

To avoid raising any suspicion, the sums are never too high.

While many individuals from the Western Hemisphere may have never heard of Odnoklassniki, we’ve found this to be a great example that online threats are an issue worldwide.
