A photo featuring twin toilets inside a men's bathroom in Sochi's Biathlon Center started a massive online debate, filled with mockery and jokes, linking the toilets to gay rights in Russia.

The photo posted on Twitter by BBC news correspondent Steve Rosenberd shows how the men's room inside the Olympic venue can lead to some very awkward situations. After assuring people the picture is not photoshopped and the twin toilets are an actual thing, the mockery began.

From the encouragement of helping another “handle his business” to the demonstration of acceptance with “gay-approved restrooms” the photo was the subject of insane critiques and laughter.

One Twitter user wrote “this is how they understand the needs of minorities” while others said it was built in the spirit of the Olympics to promote “competitive pooping.”

Even if this type of toilets are frequently encountered around Russia, foreigners were quite shocked that after investing $45 (€33.2) million in the construction, they ended up saving by opting for awkward twin toilets.
